Even in the spirit of Festivities, Some Leaders still bears in mind burdens that has affected societal advancements in different climes.
An example of such Leader is Hon Balogun Rotimi Olatunbosun (B.R.O) of Ikorodu North LCDA. Whose dogged Approach and entrepreneurship skills has made him one amongst many in Ikorodu Division Today.
Ikorodu News Network (INN) engaged in an online interview session with the Real Estate businessman via zoom on the 5th of April 2021 to gain his Contributions on Different areas in fostering Community Development and growth as the Local Government Elections draws closer in Ikorodu and Lagos state as a whole.
INN: What do you have to say concerning Security in our community and Nigeria Today?
Hon Balogun Rotimi Olatunbosun: First of all, I want to say that I saw the report on INN as regards a cultist that was apprehended over the weekend. That boy has been Terrorising that area, (Well known to everyone) And he has been arrested before, He came out and became worst. I want to believe the new bill passed by the House which was later approved by this present Administration against Cultism will leave up to expectations, So that we can stop having miscreants preventing business from coming to Ikorodu.
“Effective Security system in our communities is a very key issue for everyone of us to enforce if we truly want Development to grace Ikorodu. We cannot take away the effort of this Administration through the Lagos State Police to combat Insecurities, But we must also take Collective responsibilities to end this menace”
“We all know that the presence of adequate patrol vehicles reduces crime, No-one wants to be on the wrong side of the law, If they see police Cars parked at different strategic areas within the communities, They’ll go somewhere else to perpetuate the crimes”
“Manufacturing industries and able bodied companies around Ikorodu Division should also join forces with the communities in which they occupy, Supporting the local Security agencies therein through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Schemes. I myself am looking at possible ways to also support our Security system in Ikorodu because my business is planted across the Division presently”
“Talking about the general issue of Insecurities in Nigeria, It is caused as a result of mismanagement from the upper echelon, And that’s all I can say to that”
INN: Alright, Let’s come to our Local Government. The Elections is coming up and some have started campaigning while some are muted for now, What can you say about the process coming up in Ikorodu?
Hon Balogun Rotimi Olatunbosun: To be honest with you, I believe this local government Elections would be Business as usual, It won’t be about ‘Performances’ but about ‘Power’. All am saying in a nutshell, The incumbent that intends to return to office already knows what to do to get back, Whether they performed well or not prior. I think that it’s just the kind of system we have found ourselves today, I hope to be proven wrong.
“I also want to use this medium to Appreciate the Executives from Lagos State House Of Assembly on Local Government for the supervisory appraisal they gave on visiting the LCDA’s across Ikorodu Division a month Ago, They were very correct in their assessments which faulted the local government Chairmen”
“Should I say that the concept of active Performance in office is taken soft? Alot of people today doesn’t need money, All they need is direction but they’re not getting it!.
“If the local government system is not gotten right in this Election, The grassroot will continue to complain. Do you know that if our local government can step up their game 60% of our economic issues will be solved? Am serious; If the chairmen come to terms that their position is based on Hardwork and tenacity I believe they would do better”
INN: What do you think are some of the areas the local government Chairmen are not focus on which is at the detriment of the communities?
Hon Balogun Rotimi Olatunbosun: The local government has alot of windows to generate revenues, My guess is either They’re already benefitting from it behind closed doors or they’re not well informed about those areas.
“Each Communities is entitled to a Church, Mosque, Police Station, Market, Motor Park etc. These appropriation helps the council to generate revenues, But now the master plan has been uttered due to reasons that the òmónilës sold most space out of the master plan thus hindering the community growth and development”
“Let’s also categorically look at the ‘Street Naming’, This process is another revenue generator for the council. But what happens now is that people with interest to have a street named after them meets with the òmónilës looking over the streets and pay them to get the sign post raised on their behalf without going through the normal council process”
“There are alot I can say as regards the lapses of the local government in their duties but let’s leave it there”
INN: We Received information on how you assisted Hon MKO Arowolo of Owode-Ibeshe Ward 4, What is your take on that Leader?
Hon Balogun Rotimi Olatunbosun: I have been seeing reports of his radical Approach to support the people in his ward and I must say the man is doing his best at his level. I don’t know him before & we’ve never met, But I actually decided to go around his ward to check on the credibility of the positive reports he is receiving, When I got there I was really impressed with him that I had to lend him some support.
“If at a Councillor level he can be that productive, imagine what he would do in a bigger office space. His party should bank on him for bigger prospects in the near future because Hon Mko Arowolo is very promising. I am very impressed with him”
INN: What is your advice to the local government going forward?
Hon Balogun Rotimi Olatunbosun: Everyone cannot be complaining at the same time. I am not saying these leaders can’t do the jobs presented before them, But they must listen to the grassroot masses.
“You can’t please Everybody no doubt, But to a moderate degree you can effect real change, People know real change when they see it. Local Government is the first pathway to economic growth, Council Bosses must step up in Fulfilling their duties to the people”
INN: Ikorodu Is Developing at a higher pace now, Where do you see this Division in the near future?
Hon Balogun Rotimi Olatunbosun: Honestly, If not for the problem of Insecurities we’re still facing today, Ikorodu would have elevated more. But the future is bright.
“I can as well say that if the current Administration follows up on their intended plans to erect the 4th Mainland Bridge to Ikorodu eventually, Mark my words today, Ikorodu Would generate more revenue for the Lagos State Government than Anyother region in Lagos State”
“Our landscape would be open at all sectors and industries to embrace prosperity at a larger scale, Linking Ikorodu to Lagos in diverse ways. The future is definitely bright for Ikorodu Division“
