IKORODU WEST LCDA CHAIR CHARGES STAKEHOLDERS ON TB POLICING ®™✓ INN Nigeria ©

The Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA and Grand Matron of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ikorodu West LCDA; Hon Princess Olajumoke Ademehin Jimbo, has charged community stakeholders in Ikorodu West to look out for possible TB cases in their community and refer them for treatment accordingly. She said this while addressing the stakeholders at the Stakeholders Community Dialogue On Eradication Of Tuberculosis put together by the National Youth Council of Nigeria Ikorodu West Branch in collaboration with the Local Council.

She informed participants that her administration remain committed to fighting infectious diseases which include Tuberculosis, while noting that government has continued to play its part in providing amenities to ameliorate the pains of the people.

Prof Akin Abayomi; Hon Commissioner for Health who was the Guest Speaker at the event was represented by Mrs Aluko Dorcas; State Vocal Person on TB Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization Committee informed stakeholders that the state government has made provisions in all Primary Health Centres across the state for TB patients. She stated that the States has also provided for community testing through mobile x-ray machine that goes from community to community to get people tested. She enjoined stakeholders to refer suspected cases for testing, noting that the tests and medications are free.

In her speech, the Head of Department of Health Ikorodu West LCDA informed the participants on the symptoms of Tuberculosis which include Sweat at night, loss of weight, coughing for more than two weeks, tiredness and fever. She also informed that TB is a communicable and airborne disease which spreads through air. Further speaking, she informed that to prevent the spread of TB, people must ensure to eat healthy foods to maintain strong immune system and avoid over crowded areas.

While speaking, the Coordinator, Comr Asoro Abubakri noted that the success of the program is in line with the Chairman’s commitment to the well being of the people of Ikorodu West. He informed stakeholders that they have been invited because they are the closest to the people and their followers believe more in them. “It becomes imperative now for you to help us identify cases in your community and send for diagnosis, this way, we would get rid of TB in our community”, he said.

The TB dialogue is the third series which is held annually to commemorate World TB Day and raise awareness on TB.

Present at the event include: Members of the Community Development Committee, members of Christian Association of Nigeria, members of League of Imams and Alfas, Iya Olojas, students, Youths and others.
