Barely a day after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commissioned Itamaga to Ewu Elepe (Ijede Road) Phase 1 construction, his T.H.E.M.E driven administrative committee in charge of sport in lagos state visited Ikorodu for another developmental stride projection.

With aim to improving the standard of sport infrastructures across the local government in lagos state, Board members of the lagos state sports commission on the 10th of June 2021, embarked on an inspection tour across Ikorodu Division.

The team ably led by Dr Fatai Abatan (board member representing Ikorodu division) flagged off the inspection from the facelifted youth sports centre Ita Elewa ascertaining areas of the facility requiring finishing touch.

At the youth sports centre, Ita Elewa (a project considered 95 per cent completed) board members lauded the efforts of the team in Ikorodu for putting up a classy multipurpose facility to engage both the youths and adults in the area of sport across Ikorodu.

“It is amazing seeing this structure here strategically positioned to give sport the value it deserves in Ikorodu, And I want to believe that the rest of our board members will be using this template as a yardstick in setting other facilities across different local government in Lagos state” Hon Lanre Saheed (board member Badagry Division

“Creativity will know no limit with such an exquisite facility, which will open doors to investments and other forms of attraction in Ikorodu” Bose Kaffo (board member Ikeja Division)

“The reason we are here is to do a basic audit and checklist of requirements needed to improve the sport facilities we have in the Ikorodu division. Our coming is to observe and take note of the lapses, present it to the government as a recommendation for solutions to be provided” Dr Fatai Abatan

On getting to Igbogbo stadium, it was gathered that the state government has already approved the construction of the structure, Which is meant to be transformed into a state of the art Sport Base. The team surveyed the stadium with a focus on measures to fully utilise the space for proper project execution and management.

According to Dr Fatai Abatan (board member Ikorodu Division) the construction of Igbogbo stadium is meant to be delivered to the division in the next 18 months.

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has made it crystal clear that sport sustainability is part of his T.H.E.M.E Agenda, which he is firmly committed to. Putting every sports facility in the state in good shape is part of the plan to discover new talents and carve a better niche for the sporting industry in Lagos” Dr Fatai Abatan

“These facilities will be featuring beach soccer, volleyball, Basketball, Athletics and other game apparatus, Which would trigger and captivate varieties of aspiring young talents across Ikorodu division. The goal is to channel the energy of these young lads into positive endeavours” Dr Fatai Abatan added

The team of board members finally touched down at Ijede LCDA’s youth sports centre, where they accessed the structure which is quite dilapidated, ascertaining requirements to rejuvenate the sports facility which is proxy to the waterway leading to the Island.

“Looking at this facility, it is obvious, if facelifted would become a form of tourist attraction due to reasons of its closeness to the waterways. It already has a well-laid structure and we must recommend ways to put it up to standard and engage the community with it” Shina Ogundimu (board member Lagos Island division)

“Essentially, the local government has a task here to channel the interest of our youths while we synergize to facelift these facilities. We have to now work together to eliminate every form of unrest by creating more career opportunities through these mediums to promote a better community for all inhabitants across Ikorodu division” Dr Fatai Abatan Asserted

Other members present at the inpection includes; Lanre Olowu (board member Epe division), Mrs Olufunke Olu-young (Representative, Ministry Of Education), Biola Lawal (Chairman, Sport Association), Damilare Orimoloye (Youth Representative), Bolaji Pearce (board Secretary) and Kayode Mobee (Director, Sport Facility).
