
As the lion calender year comes to an end with its leadership once again gearing to change the guard, serving humanity continues to be the order of the day across Ikorodu division.
Ikorodu Metropolitan lions club in it’s normal fashion of fervent support made their presence felt at the Lagos State model nursery and primary school along sagamu road Ikorodu on the 30th of June 2021.
Graced by the District Governor (district 404A1) Lion Tokunbo Aromolaran PMJF NLCF who commissioned a renovated five (5) block of classrooms in the school plus an additional toilets which was also renovated by the club to create a conducive learning environment for the students.
The program featured a cultural dance presentation by the primary section students of the model school which was displayed in Yoruba, Igbo and English Language to the amusement of both the D.G and all volunteered members of the club present at the commissioning.
A moment of silence was observed paying tribute to late Mrs {Alhaja} Morayo Oguntolu, whom the project was also dedicated to after her passing in April 2021.
The outgoing president of the club (Lion Mrs Adefunke Oluranti Esan NLCF in her remark thanked the District Governor for honouring the club to do justice to the commissioning while also thanking the entire members for their collective efforts in making the project accomplishment a reality despite the challenges faced from the start.
“When the Lagos state model nursery and primary school reached out to us, it was clear their challenges were obvious and needed swift support. It is even quite ironic that our weekend meeting venue is actually opposite the school which constantly made the concern grew in our hearts”
“At some point our initial partner for the project, Airtel Nigeria suddenly relapsed their intended support due to a decline in their CSR capacity. It was really a set back for us as we have worked around every modalities to achieve this project and make the students feel more comfortable to learn”
“After the passing away of our dearly beloved lion (my mentor), Mrs Morayo Oguntolu, that trying and grief period kept us together and stronger which eventually motivated us to pull all our resources together and make this project come to light”
“According to the headteacher, students come to the school early, looking bright and neat, but in a very short time, they become dirty due to their surroundings. This made us worked extensively to renovate 5 block classrooms for them and also we renovated their 3 set toilets to ensure they have a healthy restroom for usage”
“This is my last project as President of Ikorodu Metropolitan lions club, so I want to sincerely thank all our members for their support and encouragement that actually got us to the level we’re in today” Lion Adefunke Esan Added
While stating he’s tenure as District Governor has also come to an end, Tokunbo Aromolaran PJMF NLCF expressed his joy and happiness coming to Ikorodu for the last time as DG
“Lions matches passion, that’s why coming to Ikorodu to make our presence felt is a move I can never be tired of. The five global focus of the lions club change my implementation as DG, if not, schools are my main target to support effectively.“
“There are talents in these students, and it doesn’t take much to bring it out, only a better teaching environment can enhance it“
“Lately, I have not seen agitation by teachers towards rehabilitation of schools, I only see much agitation towards appreciation packages, this is why I want to challenge lions whom are also teachers to rally a base and agitate for our community schools to be properly upgraded in order for our children to get quality education.”
“I want to appreciate the Ikorodu metro lions club for living up to expectation, these children are proud of what you have done that is why they are singing and dancing for you today” DG Tokunbo Aromolaran PJMF NLCF added
Mrs Olugbemi Mojisola Adunni, Headteacher of Lagos State Model nursery and primary school sagamu road ikorodu in excitement thanked the club for standing by their word to upgrade the school for a better learning approach and soliciting them to continue in that light.
“The club has made their presence felt over time. When the project to help the school started, they come frequently to inspect the work and ensure it was up to speed”
“It is one thing to make a promise and another thing to fulfil that promise. When I came into this school as a headteacher the structure was dilapidated. This is why I thank Ikorodu metro lions club for living up to expectations and making our children happy”
“Givers never lack, So am encouraging the club to continuously do what they have been objected to doing for our communities” Mrs Mojisola Adunni Added
“The progress effort of the lions club has been a serious motivation for me. This is on a developmental stride we are now working towards a 3 inclusive school in Ikorodu, One in Ijede, Igbogbo and Imota LCDA respectively” Mr Hamzat Afolabi (Education Secretary, Local Government Education Authority)
The commissioning of the classrooms and toilets was executed by the District Governor, Tokunbo Aromolaran PMJF NLCF.
