On the 28th of August will remain historical in the heart of aerobic fanatics, fitness promoters and wellness initiators as the first-ever Ikorodu fitness festival took place at Ikorodu ferry terminal popularly known as Dangote.

Instructors, dance experts, stakeholders, regional trainers and health practitioners were onboard the festival to high gear at the early hours of the Saturday morning as organisers sprung to action in keeping the tempo on high pace exercises.

With Brands and medical agencies positioned across the well-spaced serene ferry terminal, the festival coordinated check-up sections and drug administration simultaneously with the ongoing festival given participants adequate room to evaluate their health status.

Dr Abiodun Fatai Abatan (Lagos Sports Commission), Comrade Olamilekan Pelumi (Rado), Hon Seun Elesho, Comrade Omolara Awolesi, Milobaby Papatiya (Radio Personality IKD106.1 FM) and Hon Taiwo Odumbo were among the personalities that graced the landmark event.

It featured varieties of sessions with professionals, Eric Brown (organiser of Gbagada fitness festival) like Kemen Ekiate from Big Brother Naija, Mrs Ugo Adeyemo (Chairman Lagos state chapter, Guild Of Nigeria Dance Practitioners), and of course Mr Tolulope Odufeko Emmanuel (CEO Style Your Fitness) organiser of the festival.

As promised by the organisers, 200 participants were given free bibs courtesy of PepC foundation as Toskem Table water quenched the taste of all participants.

An emotional moment occurred as a 67 years old lady jugged to the stage to celebrate her years of fitness. Received by the organisers and celebrated by all participants, a cake was presented to not only mark the festival but also for all August-born fitness practitioners at the event.

Dr Abiodun Fatai Abatan, a governing member of the Board of Lagos State Sports Commission representing Ikorodu lauded the festival as a step in the right direction for Ikorodu Division to adopt.

“We’ve been engaging the youths and adults on activities like this, But I must commend the organisers of this festival for putting up a top-notch festival not only to advocate wellness but also to elevate Ikorodu division in the industry of physical fitness”

“We look forward to seeing this initiative working with the sports commission to take it to a bigger and larger spectrum. Such an event that promote longevity is what we need in times like this where people go through a lot of stress during their daily routines” Dr Abatan Added

Prince Hakeem Gbolade Olukunga, Chairman of Lagos chapter, Nigeria Association For Physical Health Education, Recreational, Sports and Dance (NAPHER) also gave kudos to the event, urging the organisers to reach out for more collaborations.

“Everyone needs to engage in physical exercise minimum of 10 to 15mins to live a healthy life which should work out on regular basis to be energized. Exercise is the order of the day, And people believe in it, with physical exercise people can live longer than their life expectancy”

“Just like what we’ve said, which is exactly what we’ve done today, Ikorodu Fitness Festival is designed to create awareness for our people to understand the significance of physical fitness, it’s advantage to enhance our daily activities and also enriching our thinking faculty”

“Some people don’t know how close they’re to death due to their stiff nature of living, But a simple routine exercise would strengthen their composure and improve their capacity”

“This festival also is meant to help our youths in the street to be engaged, I started as a fitness trainer and today I made a living out of it. It is a source of employment opportunity. We’re also using it to orientate youths against rape and sexual violence. Being fit help to stand against forceful influences” Tolulope Odufeko Added

Winners of games featured on the event were subsequently presented with medals and gift items from the organisers.
