The Ikorodu Metropolitan Lions Club International celebrated the International Literacy Day with elaborate Reading Action Program which took place on Wednesday 8th September, 2021 at RCCG Peculiar Treasure Parish (Zonal Headquarters), Lamina Sooja Street, Igbo Oliwo, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The club in her magnanimity collaborated with stakeholders in global literacy actions to lend credence to the annual event in different sessions to the gains of beneficiaries, who were mostly pupils.
The organisation observed that, without urgent action and investment, our children cannot compete on the global stage.
This year Reading Action took another dimension as Seasoned Facilitators and Judges were drafted to co-ordinate this year reading action program with over 110 pupils participated.
The children were categorised in two (Age 9 – 13 and age 5 – 8). Having keenly competed among themselves two winners emerged.
Also, Spelling Bee was organised to test their proficiency in spelling words and the star prizes awarded to the most outstanding winners and consolation prizes to other participants.
To continue to awake their consciousness in reading action, the club put resources together by providing reading supports of over 150 text books, story books and other literacy aid materials.
The totally packaged concise funfair event had other side attractions to excite the pupils: Dancing Competition, Dancing round the Chair. Hence, there were 10 Lions and 4 Leos in attendance to physically support the event.
The host communities where the beneficiaries (children) came from were astonished by the unprecedented gesture of Ikorodu Metro Lions Club International, praying for the leadership and members for more divine blessings to continue in their support to humanity.
