Uplifting the educational sector across Ikorodu division was the focal point of the inaugural planning committee meeting put together by Ikorodu division human resources development board (IDHRDB) on the 23rd of September 2021.
With plans to create an Education Endowment Fund, the program hosted delegates from the Lagos state ministry of education (representing the Honourable Commissioner, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo) at gbadamosi conference room, Ikorodu town hall.
The fruitful conclave was presided over by Basorun Babatunde Tajudeen Rotinwa Chairman, Ikorodu Resource Development Group (IDRDG) the parent arm of Ikorodu division human resources development board (IDHRDB).
Chief Kunle Ade Wahab, Chairman Ikorodu division human resources development board in his opening brief appreciated stakeholders in Ikorodu division and delegates from the Lagos state ministry of education for gracing the meeting, properly affirming the gathering essence.
“This meeting is aimed at collaborating between the people of lkorodu Division represented by Ikorodu Division Human Resources Development Board (IDHRDB) and The State Government on raising an Education Endowment Fund for the Division to elevate the standard of infrastructure and teaching aids in our primary and Secondary schools”
“We are conscious of the efforts of the Federal, State and Local Governments on annual/budgetary allocations to Primary and Secondary Schools in Ikorodu Division. We also appreciate the support of the Honourable Commissioner, given to the Board in carrying out its programmes as related to schools in the Division. However, we are cognizant of the gap between where we are and where we ought to be when compared with the world best standards”
“We, therefore, resolved to mobilize the Communities Leaders, Community Development Associations (CDAs), Social Groups & Associations, Corporate Organisations, Political Leaders, Our Sons and Daughters in Diaspora, public-spirited Individuals and Friends of the Division on the need to collaborate and support the efforts of the Federal, State and Local governments to lift Education to the level of our dream”
“This is what inspired us in IDHRDB to stretch our hands of fellowship to the State Government particularly the State Ministry of Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board, Our main objective at this inaugural session is to set up a joint committee for the planning of collaboration”
“Launching of an Education Endowment Fund as an enduring platform for the people of the Division to contribute monthly, quarterly, annually or regularly to the fund to support Continuous improvements on infrastructure and teaching aids in our primary and secondary schools” Chief Kunle Ade Wahab Added
In his remark to cement the progressive collaboration between the Lagos state ministry of education and IDHRDB, Alhaji Babatunde Tajudeen Rotinwa Commended the effort asserted by Mrs Folashade Adefisayo (Commissioner for Education, Lagos State) in advancing education in the state, urging her through her delegates to stay steadfast in getting more results.
“Ever since her emergence as commissioner for education, Folashade doesn’t spend time in the office sitting and doing nothing, she is always on the move from one school to another working towards proffering solutions to Lagos state educational system“
“Now, we’re bringing her attention to this education endowment fund to establish a joint synergy and high power committee in powering our fundraiser launch subsequently, which will further enrich and sustain our academic institutions across Ikorodu division in different dimensions”
“There is strength in numbers, a Synergy between IDHRDB, LGEA, SUBEB, the Lagos State Ministry of Education and also a liaison with the office of Nigerians in diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) will strengthen this vision to enhance education in Ikorodu division. In other words we aim at having selected members from LGEA, SUBEB and the ministry to be a part of this committee” Alhaji Rotinwa averred
“While already, Oriwu Club and Exclusive Club has shown willingness to support this course, The group intends to adopt schools, and work on summit with stakeholders for educational purposes too. Funds must be provided for education to be enhance, that’s why we’re looking at measures of raising a poll of fund across Ikorodu division to aid the education endowment fund & not just leave the work for the government alone” Mr Aremo Adesegun Ogunlewe (IDRDG)
Speaking on behalf of the honorable commissioner for education, Mrs Awolesi Olusola expressed her gratitude to members of the IDRDG and IDHRDB for putting together a laudable initiative to propel education across the division, with a promise to convey every point agenda resolved in the meeting to the commissioner.
“The government is very much aware of the challenges faced by schools in the state.
This is why the LASG initiated the Eko Digital now program to enhance the learning and teaching in Lagos. The system has been upgraded now to levels where you can learn wherever you’re. About 100 schools are benefiting from the Lagos state education programs and more is to come”
“Our honourable commissioner is very focus on child education and she will work towards partnering with IDHRDB to make this education endowment fund a reality. It is non government organisations like this (with clear purpose to uplift our educational systems) that we need to support”
“In areas of assigning members from the ministry, SUBEB and LGEA to be a part of the committee, it will be presented before the honourable commissioner for a swift response which we are positive about” Mrs Awolesi Olusola Added
“I have not much to say than appreciate our fathers and the entire Ikorodu division human resources development board plus Ikorodu division resource development group for mapping out this scheme to propel education in the division. Everything we’re doing is to ensure we give back to the society that has made us who we’re today.
