Ikorodu once again attracted yet another historic accomplishment as the first-ever 24hrs online school radio platform was stationed at Igbogbo baiyeku axis of the division on the 30th of September 2021.

Courtesy of the National Association of Proprietors Of Private schools (NAPPS), the official unveiling of NAPPS Lagos School Radio took place at the Megalite event centre, playing host to delegates from Lagos state ministry of education and excos of the NAPPS Lagos state chapter.

Set to deliver consecutive teachings, news and information on education to the rest of Nigeria and the world at large, according to Omo’ba Peju Akinyemi (Managing Director), NAPPS Lagos school radio centres its niche squarely on promoting intellectual activities and bringing academic practices closer to students in their comfort zones.

“NAPPS School Radio is a brainchild of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Lagos State Chapter. It is Nigeria’s First School Radio, dedicated to the promotion of learning, reading and clean fun and entertainment for school age children, their teachers and parents alike. The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Lagos State Chapter launched the School Radio in response to the challenges posed to learning by the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic”

It is also aimed at promoting education and learning, outside the school and beyond the four (4) walls of the classroom. The radio is also poised to expose students to the world of Public Speaking, This is with a view to enhancing their confidence and public speaking prowess. NAPPS School Radio is also meant to expose students who are interested in studying Journalism, Public Relations, and Mass Communication to the rudiments of the profession, ahead of their Post-Secondary School education. NAPPS School Radio will also stream educative and entertaining contents to millions of listeners at home and in the diaspora”

In a complimentary address, Mr Amusa M.T Olawale, President of NAPPS Lagos state, asserted that the school radio is poised to create an accessible educational platform for institutional enthusiasts.

“NAPPS Lagos school radio came about as a result of several months of brainstorming and hard work It didn’t come to be by accident. It is a child of necessity, brought about by the attendant challenges of the Covid-19 Pandemic”

“The pandemic came suddenly and changed the way things were normally done. Norms became abnormal and we were all confronted by a ‘misnomer called The New Normal’. The educational sector was the worst hit, we could no more gather nor assemble children in the school or classrooms. We were left with the option of relying on technology as the alternative means of imparting knowledge to millions of our learners Like the popular saying- once bitten, twice shy; The State Executives of NAPPS Lagos across Lagos State”

“State has vowed not to be caught panting in the face of this new normal, in our quest to provide qualitative education to students of private schools in the State. Speaking on behalf of the commissioner for education in Lagos state (Mrs Folashade Adefisayo), Mrs Abiola Johnson applauded NAPPS for living up to expectations in making education in Lagos state more conducive via the launch of the online radio station.

Prior to the official unveiling of the radio station, the event also featured Bata and hip hop dance presentations from students of Homat group of schools and Sagab college respectively.
