Comrade Fakolade Oluwaseun Oluwafemi Jp led Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Ikorodu branch marked October 5th world teachers day celebration in grand style at the teacher’s house in Ikorodu, playing host to dignitaries and prestigious personalities across the division.

Themed ‘Teachers at the heart of education recovery’, the union set up a spectacle that indeed scaled up the difference, harbouring delegates from both the Lagos state ministry of education and education district 2 respectively.

With Otunba Ayodele Oluwole Elesho, Alhaji Amusa Olawale (president of the National Association of Proprietors of Private School, NAPPS Lagos Chapter) and Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo (Chairman Ikorodu Oga Development Association {IKODASS}) just to mention a few of the special guests that graced the annual occasion, teachers from across the 6LCDA in Ikorodu division were majorly hosted as the highlight of the event.

In his remarks, Chairman Nigeria Union Of Teachers (Ikorodu Branch) stated “The light of the World, the beacon in the dark and the hope that gives us strength to survive, are the teachers (Anonymous). We celebrate Teachers Day 2021, A day set aside by the United Nations and supported by UNESCO since 1994 to honour the gifted souls and custodians of knowledge who works every day to make sure that the future is bright for all of us and our children”

“l am extremely delighted to say that every October 5th is a day dedicated to teachers all over the world to celebrate teachers and the teaching profession. Teachers are often forgotten and neglected by society, but it has been the tradition of NUT Ikorodu to celebrate teachers every year and this year will not be an exception”

“Firstly, I appreciate the Almighty God, Creator of the Universe, He who gave existence to all things and in Whom all things consists. Likewise, I want to thank God for the lives of teachers in Ikorodu Division, Ikorodu Branch Executive Council Members and NUT Lagos Wing and NUT Nigeria. Permit me to appreciate our Leaders on the high table for their support and encouragement”

“You will recall that this present administration was elected for a second term in office on the 24th of June 2021. It was a remarkable day in the annals of the history of NUT Ikorodu. A day where teachers came for fun-fare and not elections. Before this time, NUT elections in Ikorodu was characterised by violence, bigotry, discrimination and trickery. However, God enthroned peace between 2017 and 2021 and we had history-changing elections which have never happened in the Ikorodu Division before”

“In the manifesto to stir up our projection ship from 2021-2025, the following agenda was outlined; a. Health Programs, b.Empowerment Programs, C. Completion of Gym/Spa, d. Improved Welfare Packages e. Provision of Recreation Equipments for Teachers, f. Quality Representation at all levels. Consolidating on the achievements we had recorded in the past four years. The team swung into action and have had different life-changing programs to improve the welfare of teachers in Ikorodu division”

“I want to use this medium to thank His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom; His Royal Majesty, The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba Semiudeen O. Kasali; His Royal Majesty, Oba Ajibade Bakare Agoro, Ranodu of Imota Kingdom; Otunba (Comrade) Adewale Elesho; Former Commissioner for Information and Culture, the Agba Akin of Ikorodu Kingdom; Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I1, Comrade (Mrs) Anike Adekanye; The Education Secretary, Ikorodu LGEA, Comrade Afolabi Amusa; We appreciate and recognise our Leaders and Elders of NUT lkorodu, AOPSHON, ANCOPSS, Subject Associations, Religious Associations (MUTAN and Christian Fellowship) and all other stakeholders in Ikorodu Division” Comrade Fakolade Oluwafemi Oluwaseun Jp Asserted

The chairman organising committee 2021 world teachers day (Nigeria Union of teachers, Ikorodu branch) Mrs Defunke Ranti Esan complimented the chairman in her remark on the synergy recorded over time in the current leadership in Ikorodu division.

“As a unit, we’ve planned towards the successful execution of this celebration, but still, you can see teachers from all across the LCDA coming with their food and refreshments to cater for themselves and others, all to the progress of this event. It also reflects the unity and harmony we enjoy in this present administration due to effective leadership by Comrade Fako”

“This event is designed to empower our teachers, for example the American auction we had was a gas cooker for teachers to take home, also we used it to honour our leaders in the union who has suffered for us in the time past to set up this new era of leadership we’re enjoying today, because now the system is a teacher to teacher experience without any form of struggle in the process”

“The turnout was also beyond our expectations which is a clear indication of the bond this administration has created within the teacher’s circle with an absolute collective agenda to propel all teachers in Ikorodu division to greater heights” Mrs Defunke Esan Averred

The Chairman (Comrade Fakolade Oluwaseun Oluwafemi Jp) was subsequently honoured in the later of the event for providing thoughtful guidance and inspiring excellence by teachers in the division.
