Day 2 program of Imota Student Union Week 2021 saw hundreds of participants including students from both public and private secondary school in Imota, youths from Muslim and Christian bodies, NYCN Imota Branch, NAIDS-National, IBILE Youth Academy among many others troop out to partake in a fitness walk.
Odufeko Tolulope Emmanuel (organiser, Ikorodu fitness festival and Pukka Concept (Style Your Fitness Initiator) a fitness coach, lauded Imota Student Union for organising the fitness walk. He said, ‘’Imota Students’ Union Fitness Walk is a very good initiative and it aligns with our motive which is to preach fitness in local communities. He explained fitness is embraced every everywhere and cannot be downturn due to its numerous importance.’’
The fitness coach popularly known as Pukka said “The situation of the country is critical and many people are plunging into depression. However, fitness has a way of relaxing the mind and giving one vibes, boldness and encouragement to keep striving on even despite the stones and thorns”
“Naturally, people get worried and it affect their health, but a fitness walk like this allows individuals only to get mingle with a lot of people, get associated and get involved, this helps one to stay alive and takes away worries and stress from people.’’
He noted the reason why ladies should be encouraged to participate in gym and fitness walk. ‘’We encourage fitness among our ladies too because of the widespread of rape where ladies are mostly the victim. Our motivational words at the gym or a fitness walk like this can give ladies encouragement to employ defence and not to just fall flat at the sight of the rapist”
Speaking further, the fitness instructor concluded by saying, “keeping fit is time taking and engaging, thus it takes the youth off the streets and helps them shun all forms of drugs and substance abuse.”
The president of Imota Student’s Union, Comrade Ogunbowale Olatayo Bodunrin in his brief speech commended and appreciated every individuals and organisations, most especially the Director of Commerce and Industry, Lagos State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mr. John O. Ogunbowale for honouring the union’s invitation.
