With health in focus, members of Lagos state health  scheme Ilera Eko were hosted to a full pack of curious residents by the chairman of Ikorodu LG (Hon was Adesina) at the secretariat’s hall on the 23rd of November 2021

(Ilera Eko) A Health initiative endeavour, complementing the 2nd pillar in the developmental plan of the administration of Mr Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, as encapsulated in the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda on health and the environment of Lagos state

Projecting the phrase “A healthy nation, it is said, is a wealthy nation”, the health program envoys amplified its grassroots sensitisation and enrollment drive, which would span from November 2021 till February 2022, introducing Ilera Eko senior’s plan (60+) simultaneously in the process

According to Princess Aderemi Adebowale (special adviser, office of civic engagement), Ilera Eko is enforced to ensure all residents of Lagos State have access to quality, equitable and affordable healthcare regardless of their socio-cultural and economic status, towards the attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the State

“It necessitated the government to undertake on the building and revival of health facilities all around the State and consecutive promotion of numerous intervention programmes which include the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme also known as ‘ILERA EKO’

“Health insurance is a way of expending for medical bills and health care fees. Most people can’t disburse for all their health care out-of-pocket. So, Health Insurance is therefore the way to go in making it susceptible to compensate our health care bills and assist us to get the care we crave”

“This sensitisation, we are starting today would go to all the 20 LGAs to enable more people especially at the grassroots to grasp the insurance policy facilitated by this administration. The motive is to convey this Lagos State health insurance scheme to the citizens and for the community to hold the programme to make it resoundingly prosperous” Princess Aderemi Adebowale asserted

In her speech Dr Emmanuella Zamba (GM LASHMA) accentuated the embodiment of the Ilera Eko health to wealth programme urging elderly folks to participate actively.

“The healthcare services covered under the scheme include; Outpatient care for common ailments and conditions, Eye Care, Dental Care, 15days Admission, Laboratory Test, X-ray [Chest and Limb]. Management of uncomplicated chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma etc [including drugs]. Access to HIV& TB testing services, Minor Surgeries such as incision Drainage, Herniorrhaphy, Herniotomy, Appendectomy, application of POP, Ganglion, Simple Lipoma and Lacerations. Major Surgeries such as emergency salpingectomy and repair of vesico-viginal and recto-viginal fistula. Health Promotion and Diseases Prevention Emergency care, Prescribed drugs, Prostrate Specific, Antigens-PSA, Cancer Antigen-CA 125, Blood in Stool Test-Occult Blood, Chest X-ray-CXR, Cervical Cancer Test-PAPS Smear, Breast Cancer Screening-Mammogram Scans

With further testimonials emerging from the live audience lauding the initiative, Ikorodu local government council boss (Hon Wasiu Adesina) appreciated the Lagos state government for prioritising health care programs like Ilera Eko asserting his total consent to involve residents of Ikorodu central to the programme

“Certainly, the office of civic engagement in liaison between the Government and the citizens of Lagos State is collaborating with LASHMA, the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the scheme in organising this sensitisation drive”

“One of the tested principles in governance is that nothing has been achieved until it has been delivered and rightly placed in the public domain. This is why I want to urge residents in Ikorodu local government to enroll in the Ilera Eko Health plan and benefit from its numerous leverages across our communities
