
Ikorodu Town Hall was packed to the brim on the 3rd of December, 2021 as council boss (Hon Wasiu Adesina) hosted Her Excellency, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu flagged-Off the outset Second Round Maternal, Newborn, Child & Adolescent Health Week organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Health.
Themed, Embrace Health To Get Wealth, Mrs Sanwo-Olu also used the medium sensitised guests in attendance on Sexual and Gender-based Violence, plopping emphasise on Lagos State Government’s prejudice for such
In the words of the First Lady, “Anyone interested in being wealthy must embrace healthy living by practising good healthy habits”
“The Week will provide free access to high impact, promotive and preventive healthcare services. Services to be rendered include Antenatal Care, Delivery Services, Postnatal Care, Family Planning Services, Counseling on Healthy Lifestyles, and Provision of Long-Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets”
“All eligible children between the age of 12 to 59 months will be dewormed. Children from 6 months to 59 months will have vitamin A supplementation and undergo nutritional assessment. Children who are under the age of 12 months but are not up to date with their immunization will be reviewed and given the necessary antigens for their age, while routine immunization will also be made available every day. Counselling sessions on various health-promoting habits will also be rendered, while Tuberculosis and HIV screening will also be available for all eligible age groups”
“It is, however, sad to inform us that there are lots of quacks out there especially in Ikorodu. Our statistics show that majority of the children and women dying came from these quacks late and in bad condition. These quacks engage in dangerous orthodox medicines that they are not trained to use. We must report and discourage our women and nursing mothers from patronizing these quacks and go to only accredited health facilities with government logo displayed outside or government hospitals”
“At the last MNCAH Week, it is gratifying that a total of 4,129,462 under-five children were seen and given vitamin A supplement, while 3,519,932 of them were dewormed. Also, 202 of these children were malnourished and all were managed and followed up accordingly”
“From the adults screened for Tuberculosis in five high burden Local Government Areas, 515 people were found to be positive. Also, 32 people were found to be HIV positive and referred appropriately. The second round for this year will commence this coming Monday, 6th to Friday, 10th December 2021 from 8am to 3 pm daily across all the primary healthcare centres and designated sites”
Hon. Wasiu Adesina conveyed his genuine appreciation hosting the Second Round of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (MNCAH) Week in Lagos State. He commended the dignity, renewed actions and enthusiasm of the first lady, to assure the well being of Newborn, Children, Adolescent, Women and Men in Lagos State.
“Dr. (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has in many ways displayed her passion and commitment for her profession as a medical doctor and her love for humanity on health care provision since her assumption in office. I want to believe her concentration on Maternal, newborn, child and experiences adolescents health care came out of her various experiences encountered during her service years as a medical doctor on the above gender’s fragile health need for attention and urgent care at all times“
“She has continued in her generosity project this program to be an initiative designed by the Federal Ministry of Health to further strengthen the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal
(SDG) in Nigeria for one week as health care prevention and protective measures on all general health care, especially on general health care, pregnant women, newborn babies, and nursing mothers”

“In the past eleven years, which is among many reasons we’re delighted and grateful Ikorodu LG is now a beneficiary and host of this laudable Health care program So far, I must acknowledge the health care services we are tremendously enjoying in Ikorodu most especially for under-5 especially for immunization, Vitamin A children which include routine deworming of Supplementation for children age 6-59months, deworming children age 12-59 months, Malnutrition screening, provision of blood building drugs to pregnant woman, nursing mothers and women of Childbearing age amongst others”
