On the eve of Christmas, 24th of December 2021, Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources presents double awards to Bldr. Olusesan Daini in honour of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA as the second cleanest Local Council and also the Local Council with the cleanest market in Lagos State.
Since the inception of Mr Olusola Sanwoolu’s administration, the State Government had resolved to save the Lagos State environment from all forms of abuse, thus declaring zero tolerance on environmental nuisances.
The State Government, therefore, organised an annual sanitation competition amongst all LGAs/LCDAs to assess the sanitation status of the entire State and reward the LGAs/LCDAs that are outstanding in areas of environmental management; Igbogbo/Baiyeku emerged as Second Runner-up in the category of the cleanest Local Government in Lagos State.
While Kaniyi Owode Market, Igbogbo doubled the victory by emerging as the Second Runner-up in the category of the Local Government with the cleanest Markets in Lagos State.
Mr Tunji Bello, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, stated that in a rapidly urbanizing society like Lagos, sustainable solid waste management practices remains a key challenge adding that poor waste management causes air pollution, water pollution, as well as marine litter and all these contribute to climate change.
The Competition was thus created to encourage community participation and foster a good relationship between the two tiers of government – State and Local Government in terms of Environmental Sanitation and Community Cleanliness
