ORIWU COLLEGE OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION 98 SET STEERS IN NEW LEADERSHIP, ADVOCATES UNIFIED GAIT AMONG MEMBERS ®™√ INN Nigeria ©

With barely a day to exit 2021, Oriwu old students association amassed itself in the spirit of the Christmastide, casting it’s significance and recommendation onward for a constructive 2022

Ushering in a new era of leadership (to advance its objectives) with lecture, pop and pageantry, It was indeed a joyous 4th OCOSA 98 Set Annual General Meeting/reunion and get together party at aga axis in Ikorodu central on the 30th of December 2021

Hosting members, well-wishers and families, the meeting/get-together also sequenced its proceedings with (Bldr. Salisu Harfiz Adewale from the Department of Building Technology, Lagos state Polytechnic, Ikorodu) a special lecture tagged “The Relevance Of Old Students Association Contributions To The Progress Of The School”

Opening remarks as his 2 year tenure erred, Mr Kazeem Elemure (outgoing chairman of Oriwu college old students association 98 set) urged new excos and members to imbibe the courage of ‘agree to disagree and disagree to agree’

Mr Kazeem continues, “I crave gratitude to the almighty Allah for the grace of being alive and to witness this great occasion, for the journey so far since accepting oversight of our great association; OCOSAN “98 a few years ago, I beget mixed feelings as my tenure ends”

“Learning a lot while in office improved me as a person and gave me a better insight of bargaining with problems to fulfill more optimistic result, Also it has prepared me for bigger calling. I reckon the ordeal I have garnered here is an exercise to ready me for more supervision roles”

“Our exco members made the journey easy, without their support, a total failure in office would’ve been the case. Alhaji Sulaimon Are and those in diaspora has also been a pillar of support that i can always rely on because their ideas earns our project easily. The notable one is the show of love to our members during the covid-19 pandemic

In his message to the new leadership ably led by Samson Oshoala, Mr Kazeem strengthened, “Wishing the incoming leadership of our great association a successful tenure of office, Am also using this medium to urge them to imbibe a servant administration style because as leaders our job is to serve the people”

“With confidence, Samson and his team possess what it takes to move the association forward but I want to implore them to prove it through their actions. Embracing all irrespective of any difference of opinion especially during the process leading to their emergence, We agree to disagree and disagree to agree!” Mr Elemure Kazeem concluded

Following up the charge to orientate members and excos in general, Bldr. Salisu Harfiz Adewale (guest lecturer from LASPOTECH) chaperoned by Lateef Adesanya proceeded, “The concept and innovation idea behind the formation of old students association is to give support, hope and positive impact to the current students and good welfare to the past students. The old students have an important role to play in the educational development of their schools for technical growth and advancement”

“The old students should serves as a complimentary partners without interfering in the authority and administration of their schools and operate with high level of transparency. Old students resolve among the existence of body of committed and responsible individuals who share common identities as a product of the same school that comes together after passing out from the school to form themselves as organised stakeholders of academic community”

“The relevance of the old students will be better felt when he or she is paraded in the larger society as a worthy ambassador of his or her school with acceptability and marketability. The continued existence of development in modern day perception depends largely on the commitment and carriage of the old students”

Considering the perception of many that education is been faced with some major problems which include shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff, non-availability of facilities such as classroom, offices, libraries and laboratories, instructional materials in terms of textbook and writing materials, lack of furniture, such as chairs and lockers, hostel accommodation, lack of essential facilities like water, light, toilet, poor maintenance of school infrastructures and above all poor financing, let me use this medium in challenging all sets of OCOSA to collaborate together to construct a well standard physical facilities

“With that said, I want to challenge OCOSA 98 set Old Students Association to use their influence for good physical facilities to their former schools; Training and retraining workshops; seminars for teachers to improve teaching & learning”

They should organise award ceremonies for teaching and non-teaching staff to motivate them for continue content delivery and administrate works; organise inspirational talks with current students in order to curb high cases of in discipline; organise a mentoring avenue for current students for career progression and advancements, this will manage the high level of cultic activities in the schools and lastly, organise a micro credit loan facilities among its member for better and good welfare related activities” Bldr Salisu Adewale asserted

Prior to the dance and cake cutting for December celebrants amongst members, Mr Amuri, an elder statesman and guest admonished the association to adopt only the positive leverage of social media and prevent disputes based on speculations

“Social media has brought in a lot of things but our focus should be accepting positive energy and discarding the negative ones, we must not allow rumours and inference tear us apart”

“Running into 2022 we’re to put grievances aside and reconcile our differences in order for us to achieve everything that the association is set up to accomplish. Prioritising our health is another key area because there is stress everywhere today”

“Laying good legacy for our children by controlling our countenance because certainly our children are learning very fast”

Mr Amuri concludes, “Save more than you spend because nobody prays for the unexpected when it begins to rain. Live within your means of income, And remember, when you integrate, nobody can frustrated you, it means working collectively pays the most”
