The Executive Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Builder Deola Banjo has proven to be consistent with the distribution of exercise books and other writing materials to students of public schools in Ikorodu North LCDA.

Student representatives of public schools gathered in their numbers to receive hundreds of branded not-to-sold exercise books on behalf of their various schools at Local Government primary school, Is, Ikorodu, Lagos state.

The elated students and their teachers had a friendly time-out with their local government chairman. The Chairman in his wisdom decided to ask the pupils questions for a prize which saw some of the pupils leave the venue with thousands of naira upon getting the answers correctly.

The Vice-Chairman, Honourable Olawale Ameen, leader of the house, Honourable Ayo Adekoya and other legislators, HOD’s, LGEA Secretary and other heads of schools gathered to witness the occasion.

The high point of the event was the distribution of exercise books to the schools which immediately followed with a token from the Chairman to their various schools as appreciation for coming.

The Chairman during his welcome speech reminded the audience that during the last dispensation he made several efforts in the education sector such as distribution of white maker boards to phase out blackboards in public schools, distribution of exercise books, spelling bee programs among others.

The builder assured the audience that his administration would do a whole lot more in the various sectors within the local economy of Ikorodu North LCDA.

The Council-Manager, Mr Peter Babington during his address buttressed the Chairman by saying the distribution of exercise books is the beginning of lined up activities to make better the present situation of public schools in Ikorodu North LCDA.

The legislators, head of schools, teacher representatives, pupils and other guests took turns to applaud the gesture of the chairman while like Oliver Twist pleaded for more.

The occasion, aptly named "Walk with the Blind," served a dual purpose: celebrating the blind community and promoting safety awareness among the visually impaired. During this event, Region 6 & 7 organized a symbolic walk where they graciously donated white canes to the blind participants. The white cane, a universally recognized symbol of safety for the visually impaired, holds immense significance in their daily lives. Lion Oladele, one of the organizers, remarked, "The white cane is a symbolic safety for the blind." The event brought together esteemed individuals and organizations, including the Nigeria Association of the Blind (Lagos State Chapter), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police, and the Nigeria Red Cross. Lion Ahmed Ajayi, former president of Ikorodu Metropolitan Lions Club, welcomed all participants to kick off the program. Lion Eng. Oladele, the Region 7 Chairperson of District 404A3 Nig., spoke to the assembled crowd, shedding light on the Lions Club's mission. "Lions Club is here to put smiles on people's faces, ensuring that the less privileged are happy," Lion Oladele emphasized. He drew attention to the significance of October as a global vision month and how the Lions Club has been actively involved in projects aimed at helping those with vision challenges. The donation of white canes to the blind community is part of this mission. Mr Amao Taiwo, Chairman of the Nigeria Association of the Blind (Ikorodu Chapter), expressed his gratitude for Lions International's presence at the event, calling it "wonderful." He thanked Lions International for the privilege they bestowed upon the blind community and the opportunity to feel more included and supported. Barrister Lukman, Chairman of the Nigeria Association of the Blinds (Lagos State Chapter), also voiced his appreciation for Lions International's consistent support. "Seeing Lions International in the Nigeria Association of the Blinds Ikorodu chapter is a great thing because they have always been there for us," he stated. Mr. Amao Taiwo used the occasion to appeal to other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to consider supporting the blind community in various capacities. The event, held on the 27th of October 2023, aimed to create awareness about the critical role of adolescents in society and the importance of instilling values and skills in them. The program, designed to sensitize parents on how to care for adolescents aged 10 to 19, seeks to prevent the mistakes that adults might have made in their youth. Lion Lady Funmi Alabi, the District Chairperson on Lions Quest for 2023/2024, welcomed participants, and guests, including Mrs Ella, who graciously hosted the event, and Lion Kola Oyekanmi, the Lion Quest trainer. Lion Funmi underscored the importance of the theme, stating, "The theme of teachers' training workshop skill for adolescents is a great one. The majority of our adolescents face challenges, and we are here for three days to sensitize parents on the do's and don'ts of guiding adolescents."
