Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) has announced an increase in its tuition fee for the 2021/2022 academic session, according to a report

The news of the increment in the fees was included in a circular signed by the institution’s Bursar, Mr Maumo Jinadu and the Rector, Dr Oluremi Nurudeen Olaleye

The document which was dated 28th January 2023 tallied a substantial proportion of rising on both Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) school fees

Information huddled by reporters disclosed that the tuition fee of the polytechnic’s 2019/2020 session to be N20,950, N17,500, N28,000 and N27,500 for ND 1, ND 2, HND 1 and HND 2 students respectively.

The aftermath has since provoked diverse responses from students of the 44-year-old polytechnic, as a volume of them lament the difficulty the sudden rise in tuition fee will induce on them

The Council Boss enjoined all the beneficiaries to be at their best and emulate Miss Romoke Ogunlaja, an indigene of Igbogbo who graduated with first class this year at the Lagos State University. “Educational growth in our Council area is a priority for our administration, which is why we are dedicated to sponsoring indigents within our area to benefit from our educational programmes. I want to enjoin all the beneficiaries to do well during the GCE examination and make us as well as their parents proud.” Builder Daini, at the presentation, announced that his good friend the Managing Director of Darz Global Resources in the United States of America who is also an education enthusiast and the Council will sponsor the student with the best result and second-best result on a scholarship to any public university of their choice respectively. In addition, the chairman said, “In the course to make our beneficiaries do well in their examination, the Council will engage them in a qualitative one-month tutorial to help them prepare very well before the examination in October.” Members of the Council management and civil servants such as the Vice Chairman, Council Manager, the Council Engineer, the HOD for the environment, and supervisors were present to Grace the occasion. The students during the program expressed their gratitude to the chairman for the free GCE sponsorship.

Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba. Azzizat Rufai, who emerged as one of the first-class graduates from the Lagos State University (LASU), was presented with a cash reward of One Million Naira by the council. The presentation was made at the chairman's office in Ijede LCDA secretariat. With a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.74, Azzizat Rufai is evaluated as the overall best student in Ikorodu Division that graduated from the prestigious institution. Speaking to Ikorodu News Network (INN), the Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba communicated her aid towards Miss Azzizat as her administration's enthusiasm to continuously promote educational excellence in Ijede LCDA. She asserted that Miss Azzizat's performance is a feat worth emulating, urging students in Ijede LCDA to see her kind gesture as a form of motivation. She continued "Azzizat's success should be recognized as a yardstick, and funding her is a statement to other learners, substantiating our agenda to benefit them if they make this region proud academically". "Consider this support as a heartwarming gesture, and we wish Miss Azzizat more educational attainment ahead". 990jhnnjk1568361411267132044 Government College Ikorodu Old Students Association (GCIOSA) of Set 1993 has donated 538 metres of solar-powered lights to their alma mater. The donation was done as part of the association's efforts to give back to the school and improve the learning environment for current and future students. It also was carried out to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 93 set students, who graced the school premises in one accord on the 6th of July 2023. Aimed at giving back, the solar-powered lights, in a collective stance by the 93-Set, will improve security on the school's campus and provide a safer environment for students and staff. In a brief handing-over ceremony before the project's entrusting, the chairman of the 93-Set, Prince Daniel Ekiyoyo, said that the assistance was done to make the school security active and safe for students. According to him, the project will embellish the school, making it environmentally receptive. Summarising the undertaking, Prince Daniel explained, "To increase the usage of clean and green energy, We provided Solar street lights from the school gate straight down the Red line, Solar lights on a section of road between assembly hall and hostel (Green line)". "Also, we donated Solar lights to the Administrative Block (Blue line), Solar lights for phase 4, 6FT X 4FT Signboard with a map of the school and directions installed by the main gate". "Not to forget that we worked out the installation of Reflectors and Painting of Poles". "It is one thing to have a Dream, it is another thing to Materialize. Going by the global economic situation, it would have been an impossible task, but for the resilience and determination of our noble 1993 Set, we all resolved that this mission must be attained". "Our experience on this project was challenging, but we thank the Almighty God for seeing us through. A humongous thanks to the GCI 93 Set 30 Years Re-Union Steering Committee for the fantastic job done in executing this Project. Kudos once again to the Executives & Members of GCIOSA for the invaluable network of resources made available to us". "For the current Students of both Colleges: we encourage you to always have the mind to give back to Society and go on in life". "We finished this School 30 years ago, and we want to impact the life of the current Students. Similarly, some other people many years ago had built this School and impacted our lives. In a complementary step, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, representing the Lagos East Senatorial District, applauded the 93-Set for their dedication and commitment to repaying her alma mater. Senator Abiru, who was represented by his media aid, Mr Enitan Olukotun, illustrated that the old students deserve all the praise for their efforts to better the school during a period when things are hard economically. Hailing their sense of generosity, Mr Enitan said the project execution reflects the passion Senator Abiru also shares to better the lives of his constituents across the Lagos East. President of the Government College Ikorodu old students association, Mr Ademola Somide in his speech, said that the project drives to show how focused the associations have been, in ensuring unity of purpose in the development of the structures of the school and the well-being of the students. According to him, with the actualisation of the project, one can now safely move to classes for night prep, or even do some extra reading without the fear of knocking feet, stepping into wet areas of the road, or the fear that someone may be lurking around unidentified. Talking to the students in attendance, he said, "By the commissioning of this project, your reading and learning environment is being enhanced, and you are only expected to reciprocate by engaging in more extra studies and getting better results". "It's also for you to keep in memory, that someday in future you will complete your studies, and move on to become different people in life. But whatever you become, you must remember to give back to your source (alma mater)". "And that's why we have the Government College Ikorodu Old Students Association, which is an easy vehicle for doing this. Even as students of higher institutions, you have a space amongst us" he asserted. Mr Ademola directed his remarks to the School Management, stating that though the institution is segregated into Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary schools, with each operating independently under separate administrators, it should still be acknowledged as 'Our School'. Congratulating the 93 set for successfully delivering the project on the occasion of their 30th anniversary of leaving Government College Ikorodu, Mr Ademola charged the old students, explaining that together, they are stronger in doing greater things to the benefit of our alma mater. "Thank you for working with the project committee in the deliverance of this standard project. We trust you will, as you must have been informed, keep an eye after this delivery to ensure that this lightning project remains alive and keeps serving its purpose for years to come" he concluded. The project was subsequently commissioned by Mr Enitan Olukotun, on behalf of the distinguished Senator Adetokunbo Abiru.
