With statistics showing that one out of 12 men (8%) from age 31-40yrs have the probability of having BPH, One out of two men (50%) from age 51-60yrs have the probability of having BPH and More than 80% of men above 80years have the probability of having BPH, prostate cancer begins when cells in the prostate gland start to grow out of control and spread rapidly with one out of eight men (12%) been diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime.
Alpha Galleon World Cancer Day this year took a new angle with a change of narrative towards one of its members (Lekan Fasule of Santiago Frigate) who died of Cancer
On the 4th of February 2022, executives and members of Alpha Galleon Lagos state, propelled its fundamental project for the Alpha Galleon Cancer Day, paying tribute to its fallen member
Activated with public sightings at four locations across Lagos State with each location driven by a combination of Frigates, Cancer Day T-shirts and Banners were displayed by each driving team
Broadening the outreach to Lekki, Maryland, Ikeja and Festac, members of the service based NGO trooped out en mass (Ozumba Mbadiwe {Law school/Oriental} – Balearic Frigate & Santorini Frigate, Maryland – Atlanta Frigate & Tortuga Frigate, Apple Junction (Festac) – Benija Frigate & Barbados Frigate and Ikeja – Santiago Frigate & Tasmania Frigate) reaching out to residents with pictorial signs and customise shirt design indicators in the early hours of the day
Participants at each location scour the Alphabet combination of CANCER DAY, standing still together on their locations, creating a sublime effect. After which all participants later converge for the Lekan Fasule World Cancer Day lecture at Santiago Frigate by 1.00 pm.
The spectacle featured awareness sensitisation on cancer and its dangers (illustrated by Oriafor Otaigbe from the Medical Consultant, Mary the Queen Hospital) plus another session which focus on the prevention and management of prostate cancer (demonstrated by Pharm. Lazarus Akabgusi from the National Business Manager, Tyonex Pharmaceuticals Nigeria Limited) engaging participants at Impress Hotel & Suites in Isheri-Idimu axis of Lagos
Also present at the health-oriented program, paying tribute to Late Lekan Fasule were; Mr IK Ezekwelu Chairman Alpha GalleonAlpha Galleon Publicity Secretary Mr Oyindamola Pedro, Comrade Pelumi Olalekan Rado (Alpha Galleon CSR Committee Chairman), Dr Maurice Etukudoh, Secretary Alpha Galleon Health Committee, Mrs Olasunkanmi Fasule, Wife of the Late Lekan Fasule and National President, represented by the national 1st Provost Marshal Mr Olumide Abikoye
