With his Back To School initiative fully in place to empower hundreds of youngsters (including drop-outs), restoring their educational confidence, Hon Balogun Rotimi Olatunbosun popularly known as BRO, yet again pushed out of his way to rescue another set of lads from the streets in Ikorodu
Aimed at reducing social vices in the communities, as well as preventing minors from committing crimes and prescribing rituals for money, the youth leader extricated two young volunteer workers at the ferry terminal in Ikorodu, enlisting them back to school
In his resolve, Hon Balogun stated, "Rather than give them money that would amount to nothing, I've decided to enrol them in my Back To School initiative, so they can continue from where they dropped out academically"
According to the Real Estate mogul, who works in Victoria Island Lagos, It all came full circle on the 10th of February 2022, as the youth leader, en route posterior to Ikorodu via boat with some bulky components, needed assistance at the ferry, when he was suddenly reached by two young individuals requesting to willingly carry his consignment at a price
He continued, "The young boys are known at the terminal, helping passengers carry heavy items to their vehicle in return for some stipends. But on this day, I was the one they spotted with some items, so they approached me to help out, which I rejected at first"
"At some point, the Boat captain (that brought us back to Ikorodu) told me to allow them to carry the items and afterwards I should give them whatever I have to offer for their support, I then obliged. On getting to my car, I thought to ask them why they've resulted to such a job and suddenly realised that they're both Jss 3 and Ss 2 drop out from Ipakodo secondary school in Ikorodu due to lack of financial assistance from their parents"
"I was touched, but I had to let them understand that lack of monetary support from parents shouldn't impede them from attaining their dreams, using myself as an example, I told them how as a young boy, I enlisted myself among the labourers who built Maruwa Estate and Gardens at Ikeja and Ojota axis. Today, that experience fixed me through school & gave me the insight to work hard for a decent living"
"Afterwards, I told them I'll be sending them back to school if they wished to, they committed and I subsequently obtained their respective data. By the grace of God, both boys are now returning to school through my Back To School program and Initiatives powered by Hon. Dr Balogun Rotimi Olatunbosun {BRO}"
Hon Balogun Concluded, "I think that having them hang around the ferry terminal daily just looking for people to assist in carrying luggage will amount them to nothing, but eventually position them as threats to the immediate community"
"Going back to school and understanding their life direction would certainly make them a plus to the society, and that's exactly the opportunity my initiative will provide them both"
