In response to the growing security challenges in almost all parts of Lagos State and Nigeria in general, with clear intent to execute proactive measures in bolstering the security architecture of Ikorodu Division, Chairmen of the Local Government Area and the Local Council Development areas (I.e Hon Wasiu Adesina {Ikorodu LG}, Bldr Sesan Daini {Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA}, Hon Sulaimon Olarewaju {Ikorodu West LCDA}, Hon Motunrayo Gbadebo Alogba {Ijede LCDA}, Prince Wasiu Agoro {Imota LCDA} and Bldr Adeola Adebisi Banjo {Ikorodu North LCDA} in Ikorodu Division held a security meeting/press conference on the 8th of March 2022 at Ikorodu local government secretariat
Indexed as a Joint Peace and Security committee meeting of Ikorodu local government and its local council development area (LCDA's) in consonance with its legal and Constitutional duties and responsibilities, the press announcement was set up to inform the general public about the security circumstances within the Division and plans by the council chiefs to make the community safer.
With CSP Mike Adeosun (DPO Ipakodo), CSP Aderemi Balogun (DPO Ikorodu), CSP Justin Uro (DPO Imota), CSP Adekunle Omisakin (DPO Shagamu), Administrators from the NDLEA and NSCDC in attendance (including members of the press), the meeting propelled the continual obligation by the council bosses towards the security of lives and properties in Ikorodu Division, conducted at working with the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian military, paramilitary establishment, as well as all lawful and constitutional corporate bodies, registered entities, traditional institutions, political leaders, among others.
According to Hon Wasiu Adesina (Executive chairman of Ikorodu local government) in his official joint statement signed by all 6 council bosses in Ikorodu Division, "We shall neither withdraw nor vacate our primacy, and duties of making sure that the good and patriotic people of Ikorodu Division are not left unprotected from any form of unconstitutional and unlawful actions manipulated not only to bring down the efforts of the government but also to make Ikorodu Division people vulnerable to all manners of fierce characteristics"
"With the provision made by the Constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria on principles of democracy and social justice, which states that sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria from whom government through this Constitution derives all its powers and authority, the Security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government and the participation by the people in their government shall be ensured by the provisions of this Constitution"
"We, the Chairmen of the Local Government Area and the Local Council Development Areas in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State in Nigeria, hereby state as follows: (A) All private security outfits (registered or yet to be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission) and/or Vigilantes and/or any other entities, however so described, with interest in security in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Nigeria must be registered and/or officially documented with their local government and the local council development areas where they intend to operate. (B) In registering, all private security outlets (registered or yet to be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission) and/or Vigilantes and/or any other entity, however so described with interest in security in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Nigeria, must submit the profiles (Resumes) of all their directors and personnel as well as their equipment (arms and ammunition) to the local government and local council development areas where they intend to operate for onward submission to the Nigeria Police Force and other government-established security outfits"
"The chairmen of Local Government and the Local Council Development Areas in Ikorodu Division shall only be willing and ready to work with private security outfits (registered or yet to be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission) and entities, however, described with interest in security in Ikorodu Division of Vigilantes and/or any other entity Lagos State Government that have satisfied the above requirements" "It is directed that all private security outfits (registered or yet to be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission) and/or Vigilantes and/or any other entities, however so described, with interest in security in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Nigeria that has not satisfied the requirements above prohibited from carrying out any form of activities or launching or inauguration, however, Called in any part of the Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Nigeria. And any form of breach shall be deemed not only as unlawful but as a breach of the relevant sections of the existent Nigerian Constitution and the Criminal Code"
"At this juncture, our collective gratitude for the efforts and cooperation of the Nigeria Police Force, the military, NSCDC (Civil Defence), and all the other security establishments that have been working with us in the Ikorodu Division for ensuring peace, order and security of lives and properties in the division; we urge you to keep up your good works. In conclusion, we once again assure all the good and patriotic people of the Ikorodu Division in Lagos State of our all-around services for the growth and development of the division and its people and the security of lives and properties" Wasiu Adesina asserted
During the Q&A session with members of the press, the chairman of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA (Bldr Sesan Daini) vindicated the official press release statement by the council security committee, asserting that the essence of the meeting is to guide the security configuration across the entire division for collective performance against insecurity
Bldr Daini Continued, "What we're putting in place today is to ensure that all our chairmen across the division can fight insecurity together. "When security agencies are well recognised by the local government and LCDA's, it makes battling crimes and other negative element easy, with functioning appraisal legitimate to create better synergy"
"People who commit crimes in Ijede or any other LCDA for example can easily migrate from one LG/LCDA to another due to lack of triangular crime coordination, this is why we're all coming together, corroborating our collective commitment to combat crimes jointly" Sesan Diani Added
Ikorodu North LCDA council boss (Bldr Adeola Adebisi Banjo), in his vote of thanks, lauded the police across Ikorodu division for their relentless actions in fetching peace, urging them to continue as they have the full backings of all council chairmen in the division
Others in attendance include Council Leaders (Hon Adebola Adebowale, Hon Jessica Enitan Oba, Hon Fadeyi Abiodun, Prince Babatunde Oredoyin, Chief security Officers from all LG/LCDA's, Godswill Asiepo (DSS Ikorodu), amongst others
