Poised to put in place endurable security system and structure aimed at boosting the efforts of governments at varied levels and security agencies in securing safety of lives and properties, thereby fostering the promotion of peace and prosperity, Ikorodu division peace initiative LTD/GTE launched its safety entity on the 9th of March 2022 at Ikorodu ultra modern town hall
With a mission to continually provide logistics and active aid to security operatives and local security outfits for the enhancement of security architecture while promoting co-existence among the residents by employing the tripod of accountability, transparency and professionalism in the management of the organisation’s funds and activities, the ceremony also symbolised the unveiling of the official logo graced by top personalities across Ikorodu division
Promoting an atmosphere of Security, Peace & Commerce within the Division through the provision of a robust security architecture and a well-motivated Security Personnel, guests and residents in attendance were regaled as the organisation presented 16 brand new vehicles and 40 motorcycles to strengthen security agencies across Ikorodu division, an action that has earned more positive reviews
Projecting to create a conducive environment where business, trade, education and commerce will thrive unhindered, the initiative was subsequently endorsed by Ikorodu’s Creme De La Creme with supports spraying in from notable selves including Senator Tokunbo Abiru (Representing Lagos East Senatorial District), Hon Babajimi Benson MHR (Representing Ikorodu federal constituency), Jim Ovia (Founder Zennith Bank), Babatunde Folawiyo, Hon SOB Agunbiade (ML, Lagos State House Of Assembly, Representing Ikorodu Constituency 1), Otunba Steve Adewale Anifowose (Asiwaju Of Ikorodu) amongst others
Popular social media sensation, Ikorodu Bois, featured at the mid point of the event (presenting a short skit drama) to exemplify IDPIL/G’s approach tendencies, illustrating the entity’s agendas to mobilize resources for self-help community-oriented programmes which bothers on refined security apparatus to compliment the conventional Police outfit and operation
According to High Chief Adewunmi Adedeji Ogunsanya {SAN} (Chairman, Ikorodu division peace initiative LTD/GTE), the entity is established to monitor, co-ordinate and regulate the activities of local vigilante groups within the entire Ikorodu Division, while ensuring their activities fall within the scope of the law of the State and the Nation
Ogunsanya, The Odofin of Ikorodu kingdom at the launch of the local joint task force continued, “This event is a culmination of many months of brainstorming and strategizing among key Stakeholders of Ikorodu division, towards finding a lasting solution to the challenge of insecurity being witnessed in parts of Ikorodu Communities. More worrisome is the bad press being generated for the entire division by chronic criminal activities being committed by some unethical elements among us, which have negatively affected the peace and abundance of our communities”
“We were left with no other option than to take proactive steps towards stemming this negative tide, by engaging both native intelligence and scientific approach which gave birth to the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative LTD/GTE which we are formally unveiling today. Like other developmental government responsibilities, It Is high time security was seen as a collective responsibility of all stakeholders and, hence should not be left for the government alone”
“Ikorodu Division has blazed the trail by being the first among the five (5) Divisions of Lagos State to embark on this well structured community sponsored security arrangement, aimed at complimenting the Lagos State Government’s efforts towards the security of the entire State. “We convey our gratitude to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for making Lagos the most responsible state in terms of providing support to security agencies. We also want to specially thank the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos Police Command and the Commissioner in Charge of training for their massive support towards IDPIL/G and for assisting with the training of our personnel. Within the next two months after the security structure must have been stabilised, our next port of call will be the Education sector and from there we move to environment. Filled with happiness and absolute enthusiasm, HRM, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi (Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom), chaperoned by HRM, Oba (Barr) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali (Adeboruwa of Igbogbo), HRM, Oba Ajibade Mudashiru Bakare Agoro (Ranodu Of Imota), HRM, Oba (Engr) Bashir Aremu Shotonwa (Sekumade Of Ipakodo), HRM, Oba Richard Ogunsanya (Olubeshe Of Ibeshe), HRM, Oba Akeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo (Obateru Of Egbin), HRM, Oba David Raji Balogun (Eweye Of Isiu) and High Chief Aliu Musediku (Regent Of Ijede) expressed his utmost satisfaction with the launch of the security inclined entity which would assist in drastically deciphering community difficulties
“With the inception of IDPIL/G, it is a sign of new turn towards making Ikorodu the ideal place to reside and do business with less worry and trepidation. We embrace this initiative with open arms and we’re ready to support it all the way across Ikorodu division”
“We cannot but sincerely appreciate everyone who has supported this entity to fulfil its take off plans, Making Ikorodu safe for all and altering the negative narrative been expanded by the media about this region has been a challenge, but now we’re sure to see it rewrite with the conception of an ambition like IDPIL/G” Ayangburen expanded
In his remarks, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru (Executive Secretary, IDPIL/G), highlighted that IDPIL/G has no intention to expropriate anybody’s role or responsibilities in the Division
“Ikorodu division peace initiative LTD/GTE is simply playing a Catalyst or Intervention role in the developmental efforts of Ikorodu Division and therefore there should not be any furore in the developmental stride of the Organisation. It is an intervention scheme”
“We are focusing on Security and subsequently in another three months we will be talking Education, after which we will proceed to look at our Environmental problems, All these we intend to do in synergy or in conjunction with appropriate Agencies of government” Otunba Abiru affirmed
As part of its efforts to strengthen and enhance the Security architecture of Ikorodu Division, IDPIL/G alloted out Vehicles and Motorcycles to; Area N Police Station 1 Saloon Car, Igbogbo Road Police Station 1 Tacuma Pick up, Imota Police Division 1 Tacuma Pick up, CP Strike Team 1 Tacuma Pickup, Zone 1 ( Security Operatives), Ikorodu Central 1 Saloon Car & 6 Motorcycles, Zone 2 ( Security Operatives), Ikorodu West 1 Saloon Car & 4 Motorcycles, Zone 3 ( Security Operatives), Igbogbo Baiyeku 1 Saloon Car & 5 Motorcycles, Zone 4 ( Security Operatives), ljede LCDA 1 Saloon Car & 4 Motorcycles, Zone 5 (Security Operatives), Imota LCDA 1 Saloon Car & 4 Motorcycles, Zone 6 ( Security Operatives), Ikorodu North LCDA 1 Saloon Car & 6 Motorcycles, Head Quarter (LJTF), 2 Tacuma Pickup, 5 Motorcycles & 1 Saloon Car (surveillance), NDLEA (Ikorodu Division) 1 1Tacoma Pickup Van and 1 Motorcycle, Secretariat 1 Saloon Car.
Out of a total of 16 Vehicles, 15 were disseminated, while 36 out of 40 Motorcycles was also given out. Remaining Stations yet to benefit from the gift of Vehicles would be considered within few months (the initiative further disclosed).
