Thanksgiving is the expression of gratitude, particularly to God for the preservation of life, property, families and even leadership in all spheres. It implies the act of reflecting or impression of indebtedness.
At Ikorodu local government secretariat on the 14th of April 2022, a full display of gratitude was exhibited as the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu LG, Hon Wasiu Adesina and his wife (Mrs Abolanle Adesina) organised the second edition of its annual thanksgiving event themed ‘Sacrifice of Praise’.
With new cabinet members, Party leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Ikorodu chapter, staff of the local government, traders, artisans and youths coalesced at the secretariat hall, the event was a sequence of gospel music ministrations and prayer sessions to appreciate God for strengthening the council chairman’s administration.
At the high point of the procedure (after a special hymn was read by Mrs Abolanle Adesina from Psalm 116:17), Pastor Femi Gilbert, overseeing the religious program exhorted everyone encompassing the council chief not to relent in conveying gratitude to God at all times for delivering the wisdom to lead and make good of directives.
“If we don’t show God our level of appreciation it means we’re not ready to receive another favour from him, Gratitude to God is an expression of acknowledgement in all sense of humility”
“It is a good thing that the chairman and his wife have decided to make this event an annual routine for God to take charge of his administration”
“Only success abound to people that recognise God as the doer of all accomplishments” Pastor Femi asserted
The sermon later strode forward with more praises and prayer sessions for the council to stay in God’s guidance and supervision.
Money gifts (10 thousand naira) were subsequently presented (by the chairman, his wife, the vice-chairman, Aarebirin Hon Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Leader of the house, Hon Adebola Adebowale and other dignitaries) to selected staff including 60 widows as welfare packages were later distributed to all the guests in attendance at the event.
The vice-chairman, Aarebirin Hon Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, who gave the closing remarks urged guests and staff to always appreciate what they have as they strive to grow higher, adding that only a grateful heart thrives in these times (wrapping it up with a prayer).
Speaking to reporters post the thanksgiving program, Hon Wasiu Adesina averred that the essence of the event is for everyone to feel the presence of God in the local government.
“This is the 2nd edition of our annual Thanksgiving in this local government, and we’ll continue to glorify God for his faithful not only in our lives and family but also in the affairs that pertain to this local government”
“We must learn how to be grateful to God, and after that, we should remain truthful, reliable and steadfast in our endeavours to bring out the best in whatever we do in life”
“God does not forget those who show him gratitude and so my message to all residents in Ikorodu local government is for them to always stay grateful because things can only get better with this administration” Hon Wasiu Adesina affirmed
