As the saying goes, the deepest principle of human nature is a craving to be appreciated, Feeling recognised and appreciated is a basic human need.
In simple words, it means praising the significance, quality and magnitude of a thing or a person or the effort that leaders or individuals are contributing to the betterment of the community or the nation at large.
As the 2nd quarter of 2022 begins to elapse, Ikorodu division has already had its share of losing its leaders to the cold scripts of death, leading one to think if leaders are duly appreciated for their immense contributions to community development in totality.
Aarebirin Honourable Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba (Vice-Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government and Supervisor for Education) in her Easter message to Ikorodu News Network (INN) on the 16th of April 2022, emphasised the need for leaders to be well appreciated while they are still alive.
She stated that a community grows based on collective effort, but the mood of leaders can impact the entire growth of the community. More than ever, culture is a competitive differentiator, and a key part of attracting, engaging and ultimately retaining leaders.
The Global Director general of the Asiwaju Distinguished Ambassadors Movement (ADAM) continued, “The ideal culture is putting people first and it is also based on certain aspects like humanity, happiness and trust. Without these characteristics, the community will find itself at a disadvantage, as culture reminds leaders of their worth as individuals and makes them feel more committed to community development”
“Sometimes, the voices of leaders are barely heard because of a lack of understanding of the people. It is a leader’s job to provide the people time and space as well as the requisite insight needed to accomplish community goals and objectives”
“As humans, we cherish being acknowledged and appreciated. Feeling genuine appreciation lifts one’s spirit to bring out the best in us. When we are constantly apprehensive about our position in the community, that particular thought becomes a nagging and pre-occupying element that drains out our energy, depriving us of creating value”
“In a nutshell, all am saying is, a warm heartfelt ‘Thank You’, works as a panacea to help us rise above our normal selves encouraging us to deliver at a level at which we are truly capable”
“This is why we must appreciate all our dedicated leaders, who are always on the go to uplift and promote the interest of the region for the common good of everyone. It shouldn’t be felt when they’re no longer alive”
Happy Easter to you and your family as we celebrate our Father’s greatest sacrifice through his Son, Jesus Christ. Have a blessed Easter!” Aarebirin Hon Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba added
