ro939j4122974544298921917 Oriwu Club Ikorodu held its public Lecture to mark its 50th anniversary on the 14th of September 2023 at the clubhouse along Sagamu Road in Ikorodu.
The auspicious gathering was graced by HRM, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo and HRM, Oba Aremu Shotonwa, Sekumade of Ipakodo, and spearheaded by Led by Prince Amid Adekunle Oduborisha, the club's president. Tagged; 'Knowledge, Power And The Growing Specter Of Spectrum In Nigeria', the event brought Professor Lai Olurode, a retired professor of sociology at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as its guest speaker.
In his lecture, Prof. Lai applauds Oriwu Club for its numerous accomplishments, depicting the club as a medium to measure the overall growth of the 3rd largest city in southwest Nigeria.
He remarked that the growth of the Ikorodu division is a living fulfilment of the club's mandate. Substantiating that the club's leadership must always cultivate friendship with the general populace, he explained that the actions of its leaders should be based on the accretion of proficiency.
Professor Lai Olurode also spoke out that power can only be exerted when the title is given, while Knowledge without exercise can't produce results.
"But strength and understanding work jointly for refinement," he said.
Urging the club to reflect the needs of its people, Prof. Olurode said the club must be sensitive before starting the scheme in order not to project WANT instead of the NEED of the people.
"If there is no meeting point between Knowledge and Power, developmental actions will fail," said Professor Lai.
He continued, "Nigerians don't believe in their government because most Nigerians are tired,"
"That's why leadership actions must reflect the mindset of the people at all times".
Furthermore, he encouraged Oriwu Club Ikorodu to be a medium to explain government policy to ordinary people, thereby restoring hope to the common man.
In closing, he appealed to Oriwu Club to encourage youth to join the club so the younger ones can have the mindset of promoting society which is the core objective of the club.
Chief Tosin Akinyemi, the representative of the Indigenous Association of Lagos State, commended Prof. Lai Olurode for his lecture and also proposed the idea of having 'Oriwu Club Diaspora', to bring the youth into the community orientation the club provides.
He explained that even the youth who are not in the country can add value to the community if they are very much involved with the club's activities from abroad.
HRM, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, also applauded Professor Lai Olurode for reaching the club through his impactful lecture. He further pleaded with Oriwu Club Ikorodu to do more on the suggestion that has been made by the guest speakers and contributors.
Before the close of the event, Sir Kayode Shoderu the chairman board of trustees, also lauded Prof. Lai for the knowledge he has impacted on the club and each one present at the lecture anniversary.
He expressed general appreciation to all participants.

The Christ Compassion Crusade's preparations have been nothing short of remarkable. The dedicated team behind the event has already secured a significant quantity of essential supplies, including one thousand bags of Garri, 30 thousand bags of soaps, 24 thousand printed exercise books, 10 thousand buckets, 10 thousand bags of salt, 10 thousand bags of sugar, and two solid generators, one of which is a 350kVA powerhouse. In addition to these tangible resources, Pastor Matthew emphasized the importance of collaboration and spiritual guidance. The crusade team has convened with 320 pastors on the ground to ensure the event's effectiveness, highlighting the spirit of unity and purpose.
Healthcare is a prominent component of the Christ Compassion Crusade. The medical outreach aims to serve over 30 thousand people, with plans to provide 10 thousand deworming tablets for children.
