LASG ADVISES VETERINARY CLINICS TO AVOID QUACKERY ®™√ INN Nigeria ©

The Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, has advised operators of veterinary clinics and stakeholders in Lagos State to avoid quackery and substandard activities in order to promote healthy living among humans and animals, especially pets.
Ms. Olusanya gave the advice at an event organised by the Ministry with the theme: “Ending Quackery Toward A Better Veterinary Health Care Service Delivery”, noting that the forum was aimed at activating suitable platforms for operators of private veterinary premises in Lagos State.
The Commissioner highlighted the need for stakeholders and operators of veterinary premises to embrace noble and sustainable practices in line with international standards.
She posited that the State government is prepared to provide all necessary support to veterinary clinic operators to ensure good health and well-being among human beings and animals/pets.
Ms. Olusanya disclosed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has set up a registration and regulation team to ensure prompt registration and licensing of private veterinary clinics and premises. The team would also ensure regular inspection to maintain international standards and healthy living.
She urged the stakeholders and professionals to be guided by high standards and strict adherence to the laws governing veterinary practices, saying “The practice of veterinary premises and medicine supply must be duly registered as ignorance of the law is not an excuse”.
Enjoining participants to practice in a healthy environment, Olusanya pointed out that in fulfilling national and international standards of veterinary medicine, storage areas must be separated from food and drinks meant for human consumption, just as she admonished stakeholders that the collation of data should be prioritised for reference purposes.
The Commissioner also spoke about the outbreak of monkeypox in some States in Nigeria, stressing that the disease is contagious and must be handled with care to avoid an epidemic in the country.
Other dignitaries in attendance at the event included Mrs. Olatokunbo Emokpae, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture; Dr. Olatunji Nasir, CEO Truthmiles Vet Hospital; Director of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Rasheed Macaulay and Dr. (Mrs.) Tayo Aniagbaso, CEO of Paws & Claws Vet Clinic amongst others.
