Exterior shops visibly closed in major parts of Ikorodu on the 28th of June 2022 as the waterbed region observe its traditional Liwe festival popularly called ‘Oro Liwe’.
During the festival, women are expected to stay indoors throughout the day.
Over the years, the traditional festival has been celebrated twice every year with only the male residents allowed to move freely across different parts of the community.
Amidst the festival observation, contractors executing the road expansion project in Ikorodu garage, seized the medium to extend their project into the mid section of the major road en route to Ayangburen’s palace, running a gas pipe across it.
The ongoing gas pipe extension work has veered car parks (steered towards Ladega, Olubi and Ebute down to Ojubode axis), completely shutting down its exit route.
Expected to be completed before the stop of the day, the presence of police defence can be felt in the accumulation of LASTMA personnels on the ground.
