Passionate about serving humanity and saving lives in her environment, Lions Club International (Leo District 404A1) organized a blood drive to mobilize her members to donate blood voluntarily and also to cultivate the habit of blood donation.
This blood drive programme was used to mark the birthday of the Medical Director/CEO of GH Ikorodu, Dr Taiwo Hassan and the Deputy Medical Director, Dr Femi Aletan who share the 2nd of July, 2022 as their birthday at the Medical Laboratory Department of General Hospital Ikorodu.
In support of this act of humanity, family and friends of the celebrants and staff of the hospital were in attendance to donate. At the end of the event, about 60 people attended, out of which 35 were screened and a total of 23 pints of blood got donated.
Speaking at the event, Dr Taiwo Hassan commended the Club for the laudable initiative to voluntarily donate blood which is an act of humanity to save lives. He informed the audience that General Hospital Ikorodu has become a multiple award-winning hospital, which also won the award for the highest number of blood pints donated in Lagos State in 2021.
The Medical Director appealed to the Club to continue partnering with the hospital. He urged them not to see their donation as a sacrifice to the celebrants but to humankind, GH Ikorodu, Lagos State and Nigeria.
