839393030207990923221426575106 Dedicated to community service and intensifying significance to humanity, members of Tortuga Frigate in Ikorodu held its annual thanksgiving prayer session on the 23rd of July 2022 at Samelot Event centre, Akasolori in Ikorodu.
The association, known for its consistent aid programs to better the lives of inhabitants, colourfully commemorated its yearly agenda, appreciating God for provision, protection and sustainability among members.
During the post-prayer session, the entire membership in a convoy touched down at Lifeline child orphanage home in Owode-ibeshe to give out welfare packages to the children.
According to the immediate past chairman of the association, comrade Pelumi Olalekan 'Rado', the aftermath of Covid-19 affected the project calender of the association, but members deemed it fit to devote themselves to their conventional method of benefiting society.
Recalling prior events where the club issued bursary scholarships to school leavers, Comrade Pelumi asserted that the association has reinstated its old ways of supporting residents in Ikorodu community.
Presenting the packages to the orphanage home, the acting chairman, Hon. Adedayo Ajayi 'Jelili', stated that the sole purpose of thanksgiving is to give back to the community.
He continued, "It's a collective contribution from all our members that have made us accomplish this level of support, it demonstrates our compassion and craving urge to play a positive role in our vicinity". "As an association fondly cited as 'Peacemakers', this annual program is aimed at promoting our main goal, which is to stand in the gap and be our brother's keeper by helping others".
Mr Dotun Adesanya, Manager, Child Lifeline Orphanage home, while receiving the assistance packages, credited Tortuga Frigates as the most consistent association in supporting the orphanage without halting.
"The children are now knowledgeable of the fact that Tortuga Frigates members will visit them to show love during the year, which is something they aren't mindful of normally".
"We're immensely grateful to this association for always living up to expectations in sowing in the lives of our children who are growing up without the normal parental care they crave for. Coming around makes them feel valuable, cared for and recognised" Mr Dotun surmised.
Yomi Smart, another head member, asserted that it's a thing of joy seeing the number of members that were able to turn out for the program.
"If we're the future of this Nation, then things like this is what we're deemed to do to change the narrative and make others emulate our act of kindness".
"We've been organising this giveback course for more than seven years and there is no time we've not experienced the blessings of God in our private lives as a direct result of this annual support program".
"Doing this is to let our newer members know that evolving community builders is more vital than fitting a menace to the society, we're establishing a precedent for them to learn that if the country must see change then we can perform some of the tasks we're expecting the government to do" Yomi Smart concluded.
Among the items supplied were cartons of Indomie noodles, bags of Rice, Sugar, Toiletries, Brooms, Honeywell Flowers, Spaghetti, Soaps, Matches, Dozens of soft drinks etc.
