Engaging youth for a promising circuit was the focus as fellows of Ikorodu Diamond Lions Club & Ikorodu Diamond Leos converged at the Teacher’s house on the 31st of August 2022.
The orientation program slated to mark International youth day fascinated members, reflecting on the positive manifestation of consistent service to humanity.
Emphasizing the transformational careers of leading youths across the Ikorodu division due to fervent contribution to community improvement, the event centred around youth participation in government as a way of humanitarian service.
Featuring notable guest speakers; Barrister Toun Adekoya, Lady Funmi Alabi, Prince Kosoko Olatunbosun and the state chairman, National youth council of Nigeria, Comrade Lekan Biliamin Oba, participants were enlightened to stay on course with different means of service which would keep them on a trajectory to discover their life purpose.
Guest speaker, Comrade Lekan Biliamin Oba, urged members to put politics aside by paying attention to service for personal growth.
He continued, “Whatever you do, do it diligently and see how it pans out for your legacy”.
“In governance, you have to set your priorities right to develop, but politics is everywhere and in every sector”.
“If you don’t get people to know what you stand for, you’ll always see individuals get favoured simply by letting people see their true values” Oba asserted.
President of Ikorodu diamond lions club, Lion (Comrade) Babatunde Adeleke Sayleke, in his charging remarks told members to keep the spirit of service alive while going about their respective endeavours.
He reiterated stories of how voluntary service made a lot of youths viable for reputable positions, citing the keynote speaker, Comrade Lekan Oba as a case study.
“If you are aspiring to be given a leadership position, you must ask yourself what you’ve accomplished in your career so far to warrant such a promotion,” Lion Sayleke said, subjecting members to a puzzle.
In her remarks, Bar. Toun Adekoya states, “Humanitarian service gave me access to leadership positions both in my community and career as a legal practitioner”.
“In 2019, I started the cultism sittings in NBA Ikorodu, and presently, we have been able to cater to over 1000 cases which the state government is aware of due to our consistent approach to combat social vices in the society”.
“It is the little things that give you higher recommendations and upliftment in life” She added.
The project chairperson, Lion Eniola Bada, Urged the youths to wake up, explaining that no one should be relegated, imploring them to effect change that will bring up the necessary reform.
He continued, “Your situation should never limit you, always stay put to projecting a course”.
“Lions have been able to support our society consistently, not because we’re rich people but because we know that service makes the world a better place”.
“You’ve heard our speakers and their different testimonials all in spearheading service, the essence of the conversation is to get the same point across” Lion Bada concluded
In the highlight of the program, Comrade Lekan Biliamin Oba and Bar. Toun Adekoya was subsequently pinned and decorated by the club’s President for their level of commitment to community growth and development.
