After 19years of passivity, residents, stakeholders and indigenes of Ipakodo community in Ikorodu division is about to make history, steering the first-ever Ipakodo day celebrations.
A historic festival, endorsed by HRM, Oba (Engr) Bashiru Aremu Sotonwa, Osomeku 1, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, amassed huge awareness with an official press conference organised by Ipakodo development association on the 8th of September 2022.
The conference which saw the official unveiling of the accepted Logo, Ankara and lined-up procedure was graced by the king, traditional rulers, IDA Executives and youth leaders in the community.
Engaging media personnel, Prince Olasunkanmi Shotonwa, Chairman, Ipakodo development (I.D.A) explained that history is occurring in the kingdom with Ipakodo on the news for optimistic reasons.
According to Shotonwa, “The Sekumade of Ipakodo has signalled the beginning of a new era with his authorisation of Ipakodo Day celebrations for the very first time in history”.
Although it’s the first edition, Shotonwa clarified that organisers will leave no stone unturned in providing an outstanding event to flatter all Ipakodo indigenes and residents at home and in the diaspora.
He continued, “The maiden outing has been carefully planned to feature a mixture of socio-cultural events and activities to give everyone a sense of belonging and enhancing the effective participation of all and sundry”.
Underlining activities to mark the week-long festival, Shotonwa affirmed, “Monday, 3rd October, is categorised for Woro Procession & Cultural Day, while on Tuesday, 4th October is set aside for Free Medical Outreach & Children’s activities”.
“Ipakodo Citizens’ & Community Day is scheduled for Thursday (Oct. 6th), while our Youth activities / Mr & Miss Ipakodo Day, Music Fiesta is allotted for Friday the 7th of October”.
“Lastly, Saturday, 8th October 2022 is set for our Grand Finale Reception and the Unveiling of Ipakodo Hall-of-Fame”.
Utilising the medium to call on corporate organisations, industries, small and medium-scale enterprises domiciled in Ipakodo Kingdom for support, Prince Shotonwa expanded that the celebration is a unique path to promote the economic growth of the community collectively.
“We count on everyone’s support through kind, cash and sponsorship of any of our programmes as our platform provides a veritable opportunity to showcase goods and services to residents and visitors alike” Shotonwa concluded.
In his remarks, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Bashiru Aremu Sotonwa explained that the sincerity towards hosting a successful maiden Ipakodo Day has been illustrated in unveiling the event logo, Ankara and the line-up of activities to fulfil the festival.
Stating that no room was built in a day, the eminent leader added that organisers will leverage each drawback ascertained in the maiden edition to enhance the quality of subsequent arrangements.
Ipakodo Kingdom is an autonomous community founded by Prince Sekumade, a Prince of Akarigbo Koyelu of Remo Land. Ipakodo is also one of the foremost communities in the current Ikorodu Division.
Others in attendance include, Chief Samuel Ogunlade, Chief Olu Taiwo, Chief Oloruntade Fatola (Baale of Ogolonto), Chief Adio Jaiyesimi, Chief Mushafan Idowu, Fadeyi Toheeb (Ipakodo youth leader), Sheriff Sanla, Victor Cyril, Aminat Shodipe and Olamilekan Kosoko.
