The grand finale of the public secondary school’s debate competition which was flagged off in September at Ikorodu Local Government Auditorium climaxed at the Teacher’s cooperative event centre in LASUSTECH (formerly LASPOTECH) Ikorodu on the 13th of October 2022.
The preliminary session being the first that ever took place in Ikorodu Local Government was witnessed by personalities and intellectuals as selected Public Secondary Schools in Ikorodu Local Government took the “bulls by their horns” to flex their muscles, debating on different topics.
Consecutive performance was observed by the coordinators, moderators, education monitoring supervisors, teachers, parents, students and audience who followed the stages as the final came to a head with a battle sequence lasting 8 hours.
Preparing their minds in advance, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu local government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, explained to schools that in every competition there must be winners and losers but in all, losers are privileged to work towards winning next time.
Adesina proceeded, “We haven’t changed our promises to support academic development towards good careers neither have we relegated our words for gift items such as laptops and Cash donations”.
“Non-participants should also know that tomorrow might be their turn, they should emulate their colleagues to look forward to that day they will be called upon to represent their schools”.
The council boss extended his gratitude to teachers for taking their time and great efforts in teaching students what they need to know academic-wise.
“My profound appreciation also to Alhaji Adeyinka Kazeem, Kaodwad Associates, coordinator of this competition, who saw the need to partner with Ikorodu Local Government Education Department, his foresight to develop our secondary student’s communication skills through the debate to enlighten and broaden their knowledge is very laudable”.
“Our administration will endeavour to make this debate a continuous assessment challenge among public secondary schools to compete among themselves in boosting their intellects” Hon. Adesina added.
