r8393j3nn7616800162422322788 The business engaging gathering simply known as Breakfast with the Ayangburen held on the 12th of October 2022, raised a lot of pathfinding discourse points both from the organisers (IKODASS) and business owners present.
Embraced by the paramount ruler of Ikorodu kingdom, HRM, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, the event brought out synergy and bridged gaps between principals and the labour sector in the waterbed region.
Given room to operators to voice numerous challenges facing their enterprise, Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS) presented a communique to all in attendance about the current industrial trajectory of the region.
Below are points highlighted in the communique;
INFRASTRUCTURE
On the issue of bad roads, it is on record that the pace of work on the Ikorodu Sagamu road has greatly picked up thanks to the unceasing efforts of Senator Tokunbo Abiru. Equally, more inner city roads have come on stream courtesy of the facilitation efforts by Rep. Babajimi Benson.
CAPACITY BUILDING
Senator Abiru Innovation Lab, SAIL has fully come on stream to address the scourge of inadequate training by Senator Tokunbo Abiru; IKODASS has designated a portion of land for the siting of a full business hub and incubation centre for SMEs in Ikorodu. Work is also progressing on the Technology Institute spearheaded by the Odofin of the Ikorodu Kingdom in partnership with the German government.
INSECURITY
While we should not go to sleep, the arrival of the Ikorodu Peace Initiative has greatly improved the security situation in the city. IKODASS is interfacing with IDPIL in finding a lasting solution to the challenge of hoodlums extorting money from lorries and trailers, particularly in the Sabo - LASUSTECH- Odogunyan axis.
INVOLVEMENT OF L.G.A CHAIRMEN IN DEVELOPMENT
This situation unfortunately has not improved. We however continue to reach out and appeal to them.
PRESENCE OF THE GOVERNMENT IN IKORODU
LASPOTECH has been upgraded to a full-fledged university as hinted by His Royal Majesty at the last Breakfast Meeting. The institution has since become Lagos State University of Science and Technology, LASUSTECH. The various roads under construction and those recently commissioned are also a testament to the continued presence of the State and Federal Governments here.
BUSINESS HUB
IKODASS has concluded plans to build an MSMEs Incubation Hub to accelerate the ease of doing business in Ikorodu. The hub will also house all government agencies relevant to the registration and regulation of businesses to make it easier for our MSMEs to get all required services at one stop rather than dissipating time and scarce resources chasing the same all over the place.
YELLOW PAGES/ EMPLOYMENT BUREAU
Initial steps in this direction have been taken with IKODASS facilitating recruitment for a consulting firm.
URBANISATION OF IKORODU
While physical projects are important, research shows that perception is key. It is against this background that IKODASS has launched a campaign to end reference to Ikorodu as a 'town. Ikorodu is not a town. It is a cosmopolitan city. We enjoin everyone here to join hands with us in this. Stop calling Ikorodu a town. It is one of the reasons some of our people do not think big. It is one of the reasons we miss out on big things. A town is Small, much smaller than a city. Make no mistake about it, Ikorodu is larger than a city. It is a cosmopolitan city at the very least. A community whose economy is larger than that of two states in Nigeria combined cannot and must not be described as a town. it is a cosmopolitan city. The more you call it a cosmopolitan city, the more the mindset of people (both within and outside) changes. EDUCATION
IKODASS has instituted scholarships and education endowment funds in partnership with public-spirited individuals. It is driven to mobilize 100 organizations, individuals and families to immortalize their names by coming on board with us. Such organisations, individuals or families reserve the right to name scholarships and specify their applications. Beyond IKODASS, Ikorodu Peace Initiative has equally instituted a 20 million naira scholarship and Bursary fund. Additionally, Senator Tokunbo Abiru's scholarship/Bursary Fund has also come on stream. Exclusive Club runs special Free Intensive Coaching in English and Mathematics for students writing WAEC and GCE. Equally, IDRDG also has scholarship and education materials distribution to students in Ikorodu.
