As the first round of the maiden edition of Engr. Femi Hassan’s Gold Cup heats up, the best of grassroots football is on full show at the Elepe community in Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA.
Just as intended, the tournament is developing talent from across the town, untapped abilities, attracting and thrilling soccer lovers every evening at Elepe senior grammar school field.
Ikorodu News Network (INN) watched another first round cracker game between Adosag Fc and Active Exceptional Fc on the 19th of October 2022.
With the tournament sponsor, Engr. Femi Hassan, briefly in attendance to watch the game, fans from around the community were jacked up for 90 minutes with the display of skills by both teams.
The first half was goalless, with equal ball possession, as the referee micro-managed injuries sustained by players and kept the game at a high pace.
It was at the midpoint of the second half that goals started pouring in with Active Exceptional Fc topping the match with 2 goals for the victory, while Adosag Fc only sliced 1 in the latter part.
Engr. Hassan, expressing his excitement to Ikorodu News Network (INN) over the trajectory of the tournament, deemed the competition a wake-up call for all talents to exhibit themselves.
Engr. Hassan proceeded, “You can never know the full potential of an individual until opportunity is presented before them. So far this competition is an eye opener for me personally”.
“I came from work to watch the game and seeing the calibre of players this tournament is producing, nothing but the best!”.
“With competition like this, there is going to be a reduction in crimes as you can see, some of these guys would have been doing nothing at home all day, which would have prompted them to engage in all manner of social vices”.
Engr. Femi Hassan later affirmed his support measures as earlier stated by coach Adekunle Jagnor, organiser of the tournament.
