In a build up to the 31st edition of Ikorodu Oga Day celebration, Ikorodu Oga development association (IKODASS) spearheaded a fitness walk on the 29th of October 2022.
The health-oriented walk which kicked off from Ikorodu ultra-modern town hall in the early hours of the day was initiated to crusade against drug abuse by youths in recent times.
Discerning drug abuse as a catalyst for promoting social vices across society, the association came out in mass, chaperoned by various youths and private organisations in the waterbed region to sensitise the general public on the dangers of harming medications.
The walk essentially draws teenagers and youths into channeling their lifestyle on grabbing opportunities of showcasing their talents through pitching of ideas and pursuing reasonable empowerment.
With Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo, chairman, IKODASS leading the campaign, the walk routed through Ita-Elewa, to the ancient African Methodist church, coming through Ota-Ona and sprinted to Ikorodu roundabout before resting at the palace of HRM, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom.
With credit to youth coordinator and fitness expert, Comrade Odufeko Tolulope Emmanuel ‘Pukka’, the fitness walk displayed demanding workout with a mix of dance and recreation, uniquely fascinating residents in Ikorodu central.
Speaking to the press, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, post-walk, stated that Ikorodu, prevailing as the 12th largest city in Nigeria, has come of age and must attract every form of positivity to the soil for purpose of growth and expansion.
The King, thanking everyone for joining the crusade against drug abuse, urged youths to take their future into their hands by staying away from every form of negative influence.
“This is my 7th year on the throne, and even before becoming the paramount ruler of Ikorodu kingdom, I’ve been an integral part of Ikorodu Oga development association”.
“Celebrating 31st edition of Ikorodu Oga day is monumental and it shows that we’ve come a long way to prosperity” Oba Shotobi added
Others in attendance include; Delegates from the National drug law enforcement agencies (NDLEA) Ikorodu chapter, Members of Onward movement, National youths council of Nigeria (NYCN) Ikorodu LG branch, Dr Abiodun Fatai Abatan, Comrade Pelumi Olalekan ‘Rado’, Biliamin Lekan Oba and others.
The annual festival event runs from the 12th to the 1 9th of November 2022.
