BRIEF HISTORY OF NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS IKORODU BRANCH ®™√ INN Nigeria ©

The Nigerian Institute of Architects, Ikorodu Branch (NIALSCIKD) was created by Lagos State Chapter on May 10, 2019, during one of its annual programmes tagged, Lagos Architects Forum, (LAF 10.0).

It was borne out of the desire to reach out to Architects who live and work in the localities within Lagos State not so close to the regular and constitutional place of meetings.

Before the creation of the Branch, Architects in Ikorodu town and its environs have been demanding a Branch status as enshrined in it’s constitution; Article 9, Section 1-3 (Branches of a State Chapter).

“Branches may be formed in the State where there exist in a locality a minimum of ten (10) Architects, such Branches shall be part and parcel of the State Chapter”.

Having fulfilled the requirement, Ikorodu Branch applied to the National body through the State Chapter for the status, and the application was approved.

It is the first of its kind in the history of the Institute in the country as Membership of the branch (of all categories of membership) is about 60 today.

The pioneer Executives of the Branch are Chairman, Arc. Victor Uchenna Achime, Vice Chairman, Arc. Gbolahan Kukoyi, Secretary, Arc. Abiola Onibon-oje, Treasurer, Arc. A.O Bolarinde, Financial Secretary, Arc. Olusola Amusan, P.R.O, Arc. Oladele Onafowokan, Liaison officer, Arc. Tayo Oladipupo.

897jkp1269787065857774964 The vibrant community of Ipakodo in Ikorodu came alive on the 2nd of October 2023, as it kicked off the much-anticipated 2023 Ipakodo Day celebration.
This year's festivities hold a dual significance as it coincides with the 5th coronation anniversary of the revered Sekumade of Ipakodo, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Oba Aremu Shotonwa.
The celebration began in earnest with a spectacular woro procession, which saw the active participation of the youth and residents.
The procession wound its way through the major thoroughfares of Ipakodo, filling the air with the rhythms of traditional songs and the vibrant colours of cultural attire.
It was a heartwarming sight as the entire community joined in, reflecting the unity and pride of Ipakodo.
The grand procession culminated at the majestic palace, where different factions paid homage to the beloved Oba of Ipakodo.
HRM Oba Aremu Shotonwa, resplendent in his regal attire, graciously received the well-wishers and expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support and participation of the community in making the start of the celebration truly memorable.
In his address to the gathered crowd, Oba Bashiru Aremu Shotonwa announced plans for a significant development in Ipakodo.
He also revealed to Ikorodu News Network (INN) that the occasion of his 5th coronation anniversary, which aligns with Ipakodo Day celebrations, would mark the inception of a pavilion construction project. "This pavilion would serve as a central hub for community gatherings, and cultural events, and a symbol of unity for the Ipakodo people" Oba Shotonwa asserted.
The Sekumade of Ipakodo concluded his remarks by calling on all residents to maintain the same spirit of unity and cooperation throughout the celebration, leading up to the grand finale day.
He emphasized the importance of preserving the rich cultural heritage of Ipakodo and strengthening the bonds that bind the community together.
As the celebration continues, Ipakodo residents and well-wishers eagerly anticipate a series of cultural displays, traditional performances, youth carnival, sports and educational programs that will take place over the coming days.
The 2023 Ipakodo Day celebration promises to be an unforgettable event, reaffirming the sense of community and pride that defines this vibrant kingdom in Ikorodu.
The Olisa of Ipakodo, High Chief Oludayo Shotomiwa, members of the Erelu and executive members of Ipakodo development association, headed by the joint planning committee chairman, Dr Bolaji Adeniji, former Ikorodu West LCDA chairman, Princess Ganiyat Olajumoke Jimbo Ademehin, among others, joined the grand opening occasion.

img 20230930 wa00214136278179800486102 With the steps so far taken by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since May 29, 2023 when he took the oath office, Nigeria can be described as a country currently on track for economic recovery and advancement, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has said.
Dr. Obasa gave this position in a congratulatory message to Nigerians on the occasion of the country's 63rd Independence anniversary.
In the message released by his media office, the Speaker noted that Nigeria is currently led by Asiwaju Tinubu, a financial expert and who knows how to plug every hole that would ordinarily hinder the country from reaching its goals.
Noting the current challenges facing Nigeria, Dr. Obasa encouraged the citizens to be more tolerant at this time and exercise more patience with the hope of a greater destination for the country.
"We collectively understand the state of the country. We also know the sacrifice each of us is making at the moment to see that our nation works for us again.
"Delightedly, the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hit the ground running sorting out the challenges and designing action plans to resolve a whole lot of them. This is what we expect of a Nigerian leader at this time.
"Nigeria has undergone a lot of developmental experiments since 1960 when we became an independent nation. However, just as the experiments went, the country amassed various challenges which became burdensome over the years leading to the clamour for true leadership.
"In the last few months, right steps have been taken by the government, which, if we all work around, would gravitate into producing the right results we all yearn to see and experience.
"We all want to see a country that attracts investors because of the right environment, we aspire to have world-class health services, we clamour for better education for our children, better prospects and employment opportunities. These are all achievable. What we simply need is cooperation with the government of the day.
"Nigeria is on the pathway to greatness. We have to pull together our collective resilience, patriotism and strength to see us through so our country can return to its enviable state in the comity of nations.
"I congratulate every Nigerian citizen today and urge us all to see a blissful future ahead of us," the Speaker urged.
"At the Lagos State House of Assembly, we have taken various actions, many of them futuristic, which have helped to create a sane environment devoid of the level of criminalities experienced elsewhere.
"We will never sit on these achievements, but work tirelessly to see that each resident of our dear State truly believes in Lagos and its success," the Speaker added.

img 20230930 wa00101453984853185735953 The Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, Distinguished Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA on Saturday distributed over 6,000 Food Packs to vulnerable members of the society in the Lagos East Senatorial District.
It will be recalled that the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District launched the quarterly Food Packs Programme in June 2023. This is the second edition of the well applauded programme targeted at vulnerable people, namely; widows, unemployed youth, aged, women and People living with disabilities are drawn across the 98 wards in the 16 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development areas of the district. Constituents trooped out en masse to various collections in Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Somolu and Kosofe LGAs to collect the Food Packs containing:Goldenvita, Semo Vita, Garri, Pure Soya Oil, Spread(Butter), Granulated Sugar, Pasta Couscous, Pasta Macaroni, Pasta Spaghetti, Noodles Jollof, Noodles GMPS and Amazing Day Breakfast Cereal. In his remarks, Senator Abiru, fondly called the #DoingGood Senator, said the food packs programme was a direct intervention for the people at the grassroot who are feeling the heat of the economic pangs occasioned by the removal of petroleum subsidy. According to him, the Food Packs will support the most vulnerable households in this challenging period.
The Senator also assured that he will not relent in championing legislations, programmes and interventions that will have lasting impacts on the larger number of the constituents of Lagos East. He said SAIL Innovation Lab, the first of its kind Innovation Lab in Lagos East, founded by him and his wife, Feyisola was set up to offer sustainable and globally competitive jobs and opportunities to young people of the district. Senator Abiru said a sizable number of youths had been trained in digital and tech-related programmes that are well sought-after globally. On the critical Ikorodu-Itokin road which serves as a major road that links the Ikorodu to Epe and Ibeju-Lekki, and other parts of the country, he assured that the new government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown commitment to implement the awarded rehabilitation project. It is imperative to state that this is not the first direct humanitarian assistance for the needy that the distinguished Senator Abiru has done. It will be recalled that the Lagos East Senator disbursed more than N150 million Naira in about 24 months to over 2,500 vulnerable people under his COVID-19 Financial Relief Scheme. Every month, beneficiaries received direct credit of N5,000 each for the period the programme lasted.
Some of the beneficiaries who expressed gratitude to Senator Abiru include; Muftau Adegboyega Tojuowo, a Person Living with a Disability, other include, Anuoluwapo Zainab, Tiletile Kazeem Idowu, Folake Akerele and Niyi Oyeniran.
Dignitaries at the Ikorodu distribution venue include Dr Saheed Oladapo Ibikunle - the Special Adviser to the Senator on Constituency Matters, Hon (Mrs) Adebimpe Akinsola, Alhaji Rilwan Ishola Jinadu, Alhaja Abiodun Ogunniyi, Arc Taiwo Kara, Alhaji F O Lasisi, Alhaji Mondiu Jimoh and Hon Sefiu Ogunyemi, amongst others.
