Ikorodu Ambassadors Group Peace Novelty Match took place on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Ikorodu Funpark in Itamaga.

The novelty match pitted team candidates, made up of registered political party candidates for the upcoming general elections across Ikorodu Division, against team electorates, made up of youth stakeholders from across the division.

Designed to promote the necessity of free and fair elections during the general elections in 2023, the initiative featured candidates from several parties, despite their different political ideas and affiliations and their candidates, some of whom were meeting for the first time, worked as a team to win the football game.

According to the organisers, “the idea displays to Nigerians especially the people of Ikorodu, that assassinating and fighting one another during elections are pointless”.

The initiative established a platform for the electorates to see the social sides of their candidates in addition to providing a way to create a safe environment for everyone to flourish in the spirit of sportsmanship before, during, and after the election. Additionally, it provided political candidates with a chance to interact directly with voters.

The ceremony made everyone present candidates, party supporters, representatives of youth organisations, and onlookers, took a peace vow, pledging to refrain from planning chaos during the upcoming general elections.

Team Candidate in attendance include; Hon. Idowu Olaiwola Adeleke AA , Hon. Ogunnote Bukola Iyabo AA, Hon. Oguntola Ayodele ADP, Hon. Samson Sulaimon ADP, Hon. Azeez Gbolahan ADP, Hon. Junaid Muyideen Olasunkanmi NNPP, Hon. Aderibigbe Adekunle Rasaq NNPP, Hon. Onibudo Sodiq Abiodun NNPP.

Team Electorate; Hon. Abayomi-Bork Shamusideen Ayanlaja (Omo Adugbo Shemii), Com. Fatuga Rasheed Adedeji, Com. Kunle Adelabu Chief Editor, Impact News(As Chief Coach for Team Candidates), Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, Board Member, Lagos State Sport Commission (As Chief Coach for the Team Electorate), Com. Kutere Razak Babatunde, Com. Fatai Idris Coordinator, NYCN Ikorodu LGA, Mr Amure Ahmed (Wasmed) and Com. Sholanke Lateef (Arizona).

Alhaji Akinsanya, Hon. Awesome, Hon. Hameed Olalekan Aroyewun HOA, AAC Governorship candidates were also in attendance.
