Made up of individuals to make positive changes in society little instead of finding faults in things that are wrongly done, The Accord Brothers Association was established in 2013.
Registered with the Local Council Development Area for official recognition of Association, the group started with environmental sanitation works, slowly spreading to the donation of school items to public primary school pupils and counselling of students.
Recently, they came up with a written mission to stimulate community growth, fostering youths’ activeness, as powerful change agents.
Just as every organisation witnesses changing its leadership guard, the association had its paradigm shift on the 27th of December 2022, with Hon. Adeyemi Oshodi becoming its new President.
The program which took place at De-Shokis event centre in Igbogbo played host to guests; Hon. Hammed Aroyewun, Mr Babatunde Afuwape, Hon. David Alagbe, Princess Adetola Ogunlewe, Princess Abiodun Oyefusi, Labour Party Deputy Governorship Candidate, Lagos state, Com. Billiamin Olalekan Oba, Chairman NYCN, Lagos State and others, signified and embodied continuity, and civility as well as exemplifying an unforgettable mark for selfless service to humanity.
Before the installation of the new president, Mr Adeniji Olawale, Pioneer President of the association stated that most youths try to seek shortcuts to achieve their goals, and some of them are unwilling to take the time to work hard at improving their skills and talents.
In his opening speech, the pioneer president continued, “Preferably, they want to leave school today and own a house, car and other luxuries of life in the shortest possible time”.
“The economy and state of the country are not friendly in recent times, however, we don’t want our youths to see this as an excuse for not pursuing their goals”.
According to Mr Olawale, Rome was not built in a day and there is always time for everything under the sun.
He concluded that the essence of changing leadership is to allow others to effect progressive change not only in the interest of the association but the society at large, asserting that everyone must decide their future without allowing it to be taken away.
Special guest speaker, Igbogbo’s former minister of works and housing, Sen. Adeseye Ogunlewe, GAC Member urge the association to elect excos that are ideas-driven, expanding that the organisation should be a vital catalyst to foster community growth.
In his address, the GAC member also advised the group to heighten its exercise to ensure communities are not run by illiterates which attracts infractions and social vices.
“If we know we’ve been blessed by God then we must work together to give back to the community because we cannot deny that things are not working well around us” Sen. Ogunlewe explains.
“For this group to elevate its functions, they must articulate plans to rigorously support scholarship and bursary schemes because education reshapes the fabric of any neighbourhood”.
Concluding that the group’s plan must not abandon the children, Sen. Ogunlewe asserted that the establishment agenda should integrate health, education, empowerment and others that will uplift the community in which it found itself.
Post installation of a new president and executives, Hon. Adeyemi Oshodi thanked his predecessors for laying a solid foundation for his leadership to thrive, expressing his gratitude to guests in attendance as well.
Communicating his humility at the decision of the members of The Accord Brothers (TAB) to honour him with the position of President, He affirms enthusiasm in living up to his goals.
Deciphering reasons why high numbers of dropouts are seen in secondary schools and also why non-indigenes are doing better in public primary and secondary schools than indigenous, Hon Adeyemi explained that his administration will propel young lads to believe in the beauty of their dreams.
He explained that in 2023, the association will embark on activities such as; BrainTAB – A competition for secondary school students aimed at improving their educational standards and helping in preparing them for national and international examinations and competitions. LAUNCH YOUR TABS: “TALENT AND BUSINESS SKILLS – An innovative reality contest that will focus on unveiling talents, business ideas and skills in youths in the community.
