Shaped four years ago, the Ijede LCDA Unified youth forum is a registered pressure group, aimed at thrusting the government and institutions to enhance the growth standard of the region it dwells in.
Deemed the largest and only pressure group in Ijede LCDA, the group marked its 4th anniversary on the 14th of January 2023 at the prestigious Golden Heaven event centre, playing host to special dignitaries across the province.
With High Chief Aliu Kayode Musediq, Regent of Ijede kingdom, High Chief Aliu Babatunde Ogunmuyiwa, Odofin Alajede of Ijede, High Chief Bello Shakirudeen Adetona, Otunba of Egbin kingdom and Chief Olanrewaju Kuye, Otunba of Emiren kingdom as special guests, the ceremony was notable in bestowing voice to the youths in the land of cool breeze and aquatic splendour.
Formerly known as the Ijede-Egbin youth forum, the group is now named the Ijede LCDA Unified Youth Forum, consisting of an elders’ advisory body and also an executive assemblage headed by Prince Olumide Musediq.
Chairman of the occasion, Prince Ademola Olutusin, lauded the group in his short footnotes, recounting their commitment to guaranteeing the community enjoys a sufficient power supply.
He further motivated them to remain trustworthy in their pursuit to upgrade the standard of living in the community.
According to Prince Ademola, “This denomination has been a significant tool for a favourable modification in Ijede LCDA, and I crave youths around this region to key into their tenacity and unified strength”.
Furthermore, He pleaded with the present administration under the governorship of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to look towards fixing Ijede major road after the actualisation of the Agura-gberigbe thoroughfare which is currently under construction.
Prince Adebowale Afinah Sodiq, Guest speaker for the event, in his words instructed the group to maintain their core objective, which is to live in the void on behalf of the community to commend performing governance and criticise policies for poor tasks as well.
In his statements, “Pressure group is an integral part of the developmental phase of every community.
“Pressure groups don’t infer they are against the government, they’re a set of individuals who channel the right and adequate information at the grassroots level towards the government, to aid in propagating their policies”.
“They epitomize the freedom of speech, which is reflected in the activities of the Unified Ijede-Egbin Youth Forum” Prince Sodiq expanded.
Speaking on the effort of the group further, Prince Sodiq, a Senior Assistant Registrar at the Lagos State University (LASU), stated that Ijede LCDA, been the host community to Egbin Power Plant, for a while had endured power outages, but right to the activeness of the Ijede-Egbin youth forum, the community is currently enjoying good power supply.
Speaking with Ikorodu News Network (INN) post-event, Prince Olumide Musediq explained that the group aims to emancipate the youths and give them a voice.
According to Olumide, “We involve in all developmental projects, and we’ve built satisfactory synergy with the Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba and also the legislative arm of the council”.
He continued, “As a pressure group, we have organised many projects like political symposiums to enlighten our people on their right to vote. Also, we’ve organised healthy peaceful protests and press conferences”.
“We are the reason behind the uninterrupted supply in Ijede LCDA and its environs, and also we’ve partnered with all security agencies to ensure Ijede LCDA is a peaceful crime-free society”.
Olumide finalised by elucidating that its members have been empowered and committed in numerous areas to keep them playing responsible roles for the good of the community.
At the high point of the occasion, Alhaji Bashiru Saminu, Alhaji Olanrewaju Tiamiyu, Alhaji Wasiu Agoro and Alhaji Wahab Bello were recognised with special service and support Awards.
The group subsequently unveiled its new unifying logo which received a standing ovation from guests and members present.
Prince Dehinde Thomas, father of the occasion, Alhaji Abdulfatai Oriyomi Lawal (Great Hunter), Apostle Peter kolawole, CAN chairman Ijede LCDA, and Alhaji Fola Salu was also in attendance.
