200 beneficiaries have received over 10.6 million naira grants as Rotary clubs in Lagos carry out an empowerment scheme.
The refinement initiative was held at the Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali multipurpose (vocational) centre in Igbogbo on Thursday, 19th of January 2023.
An aid that came into fruition in a synergy between Rotary Club Gbagada and Grace & Mercy Households is geared towards providing financial services to stranded and low-income earners, offering them easy access to monetary support.
Marking 5th year of the cheque presentation for poverty alleviation, the program runs as the renewal of a global grant project GG 1852287 on economic empowerment.
Graced by the Rotary club’s District Governor, Rotarian Omotunde Lawson, the event was levelled by the host club, Rotary club of Ikorodu Metropolitan, chaperoned by presidents of Rotary Club of Gbagada, Gbadada South, Ikoyi, Cotonou Palmiar and Rotary club of Kensington and Chelsea.
Freeing the floor, Rotarian Alozie Nsirimobi, President of the Rotary Club of Gbagada, praised the Grace and Mercy households for effectively utilising funds that have elongated the imagination of the support scheme.
Contending that the club will subsequently reach out to the agency for more grants to assist extra joined legatee.
He further appreciated the District Governor for making herself accessible at the program, despite her busy official activities across Lagos State.
On her path, the District Governor, Rotarian Omotunde Lawson explained that the support program is very essential as part of the club’s 7-point service goal, prompting her to be available.
Thanking all clubs for the workable synergy to support residents across the State, Rotarian Omotunde touted the clubs for the love and assistance disseminated thus far.
She continued, “At some point, the empowerment of women became paramount to us because they deserve to be given better opportunities for a promising life which they crave for”.
“Truth be told, If you train a woman? you’ve empowered 100 men because their capacity to provide for the entire family came from God alone”.
“We strive to reach out to more women, but it does not take away the fact that we’re also supporting the men, because we know that good men will also go back home to support their women”.
“While am not taken anything away from Grace and Mercy Households initiative for the professional directives and supervision of this course, I’ll also want to express my profound gratitude to the four Rotary clubs for coming together to make this empowerment possible” Rotarian Omotunde asserted.
Former Rotary Club District Governor, Rotarian Adewale Ogunbadejo, in his brief remarks, stated that the vocational centre where the cheque was presented is serving its purpose on diverse grounds.
According to Rotarian Ogunbadejo, structuring the vocational centre during his tenure gives him the euphoria to see how the centre has stood firm for multipurpose support to dwellers.
Rotarian Olarenwaju Akoshile, President, of the Rotary Club of Gbagada South, clarified that the club felt compelled to help more people due to the success of previous editions which has improved the lives of different families.
Mrs Adesanya Omolola, a beneficiary, told Ikorodu News Network (INN), that the grant is a big relief, coming at a time it’s preferred.
According to her, “the grant will be wielded to accomplish a lot of things am struggling to accomplish daily”.
“Trading is an important area I’ll channel the grant into, plus assisting my children too in their respective endeavours”.
Mrs Omolola informed other residents to enlist themselves in the scheme, educating them that the program will help them flourish in their numerous conceptions and career paths.
She further thanked the Rotary club together with Grace and Mercy Households for the support, praying that God should provide both organisations with more enablement.
Talking to Ikorodu News Network (INN), the Imaginative President of the Rotary Club of Ikorodu Metropolitan, Rotarian Olushola Aleshinloye-Williams, said that the impact of the program is enormous, putting in that more lives will be improved if additional partners can join the course.
Illustrating further, Rotarian Olushola communicated that Nigeria is experiencing a rise in population, which the government alone cannot harbour, adding that the club is adopting the relief initiative as a personal means of alleviating poverty in the community.
“We developed the support scheme because we noticed that most people do not have the regular prerequisite stated by banks to access grants, and also, some cannot access the grants due to outrageous interest rates attached to it”.
“It must also be observed that past beneficiaries have been doing well, which is why the initiative has proceeded to thrive and widen to this point”.
“We pray that more collaborators will merge with us to enable the club to reach more lives because my dream is for the next edition to see inheritor filling up the hall to its brim”.
Rotarian Olushola disclosed that proper utilisation of funds by beneficiaries is due to adequate follow-up by Grace and Mercy Households, bestowing credit to the improvement strategy.
