Ikorodu Man Of the Year & Outstanding Personalities Award (IMOYA) was conceptualised to admire and laud noteworthy indigenes of the Ikorodu division who are partaking meaningfully in the all-around growth and development of the waterbed region.
The prestigious annual ceremony was held on the 21st of January 2023 at the Ikorodu Ultra-modern town hall.
Organised by Dammygreen International concepts, publisher of Starlight Legacy Celebrity Magazine, the award conforms as courage for the furtherance of service to humanity, and a medium to enable young people on the need to be a part of nation-building.
The highlight of the 2023 edition celebrated the Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, CEO of Multi-Choice Nigeria, as Man of the year.
Subsequently, Sir (Otunba) Ayodele Oluwole Elesho bagged the Outstanding Community Statesman award, Ikorodu Local Government Vice-Chairman, Aarebirin Honourable (Dr) Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba took the Outstanding Amazon award, and Ikorodu West LCDA Chairman, Hon. Sulaimon Olanrewaju Kazeem earned Council Chairman of the year award.
Furthermore, Managing Director and CEO of Ikorodu General Hospital, Dr Taiwo Hassan capped a special recognition award on service excellence and community development, APC flag bearer for Ikorodu constituency 2 at the Lagos State House Of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro (AMA) won the Outstanding Youth award in the male category, while Miss Abagun Lateef Oriyomi won the Outstanding youth award in the female category.
Community Service Award went to IKODASS Prince Adekunle Eniola Bada, Community and Youth Development awards were yanked by Mr Muheedeen Oriyomi Balogun, Hon. Kehinde Fadeyi (Ijede), Comrade Odumosu Abiodun Ashaka (Imota) and Comrade Babatunde David Oyesanya (Igbogbo Baiyeku) won the Promising Youth for Leadership Award.
According to Damola Aderibigbe, IMOYA initiator, in 2003, upon the creation of ljede LCDA, the publisher, then based in Surulere, Lagos was invited by the then Secretary to the local government of Ijede LCDA Mr Lanre Kuye, to start a publication for the Ijede community.
The acceptance of the persuasive request from Mr Lanre Kuve gave birth to the launch of Ijede Starlight Community Newspaper on the 11th of September 2004 and the eventual relocation of the publisher to Ijede community, in the Ikorodu division of Lagos state.
He continued, “For about 2 decades now, Starlight Newspaper had survived all odds to stay aloft in the very turbulent and challenging world of print media”.
“By his grace, come September 2024, the publication shall be celebrating its 20th anniversary in community journalism” Mr Aderibigbe asserted.
Former Lagos State House Of Assembly Clerk, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, who performed the majority of the presentation, expressed his satisfaction with the award ceremony.
He added that the event, which gives more value to the leadership strides of stakeholders in Ikorodu division has come to stay.
He proceeded, “We’ll do our best to ensure that this event continues to keep putting the commitment of different leaders in the spotlight, appreciating them in return”.
“It is a credible event of this nature that validates contributions and efforts made to make Ikorodu division the 12th largest city in Africa and the 3rd largest in Southwest Nigeria” Otunba Abiru added
Ayangburen-in-Council, Executive Vice-Chairman Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. Adesegun Aluko, Mr Seun Elesho, NYCN State Chairman, Comrade Lekan Billiamin-Oba, Mr Samson Bisiriyu, Mrs Jessica Enitan Oba, delegates from iCare foundation, Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro Campaign faction and other dignitaries were in attendance.
IMOYA’s maiden edition was held in 2016, which identified groundbreaking achievers in the community.
