ROTARY CLUB OF IKORODU METROPOLITAN TAKES FREE HEALTH PROGRAM TO LASUNWON COMMUNITY, CATERS TO OVER 200 RESIDENTS ®™√ INN Nigeria ©

With good health and vitality in view, Volunteer members of the Rotary Club of Ikorodu Metropolitan took to Lambo Lasunwon Community in Ikorodu on the 3rd of February 2023.

The club, competently led by its President, Rotarian Shola Williams, graced the Orija Palace, championing the Rotary Family Health Day, a free medical program for residents.

It featured Polio Immunization, Malaria Screening and Treatment, HIV Testing & Counseling, Hepatitis B&C, Diabetes & Glucose level Screening, Hypertension screening, Tuberculosis Screening, and Vitamin A Administration.

Deworming of Children, Distribution of Insecticide-treated mosquito nets, Cervical/ Breast/ Prostate Cancer Screening, Family Planning Counselling & distribution of Condoms, Distribution of Sanitary pads for girls, Eye cataract tests, Dental Care, Covid-19 Awareness & Sensitisation were also administered.

According to the President, the health program is annually performed to reach out to the less privy individuals or persons who are financially unable to cater to wellness.

He pointed out that the project is formulated by the Rotary Club International, with the Bill & Belinda Gates Foundation, Hepatitis Zero World Eradication Project, End Polio Now, and the Federal Ministry Of Health fully involved as supporting partners.

Rotarian Shola explains further, “We did the first edition of this program in October 2022, this is the 2nd edition, for us, it is an opportunity to give back to our communities, targeting the rural areas”.

“The palace space we’re using is based on the support we got from the Baale of Orija Lambo of the Lasunwon community and we’re overly grateful for his aid to enable the undertaking of this positive course” Rotarian Shola asserted.

Medical Specialist and former President of the club, Rotarian (Dr) Bayo Ojo, who took charge of the health consultation desk and dispensation of free drugs during the program, told Ikorodu News Network (INN) that the program is a health awareness campaign set to prompt residents on how to quite handle their health cases.

Dr Ojo, who’s also the Managing Director of Excellence Hospital in Ikorodu, said the procedure uncovers silent-killing sicknesses like hypertension and diabetes.

He proceeded, “Patients who have a sickness that the club can handle on the spot, we’ll try our best to help them thoroughly after having their blood tested”.

“But in cases where the sickness is beyond our support, we’ll give them proper channelled recommendations to help them get the adequate aid required”.

Dr Bayo elucidated that the advantage of the program is bringing the hospital directly to the community for those who are reluctant to go and seek help.

“We’re educating and giving them preventive measures, most especially the high risks individuals in the vicinity, which are the children below age 5 and also the pregnant women” Dr Bayo concluded.

Baale of Orija Okegbegun, Adeowo Olayiwola Idris, thanked the club for bringing such a laudable health project to his community.

The Baale also lengthened his appreciation to the Ayangbure of Ikorodu Kingdom, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, who made him the Baale of the neighbourhood.

In his short remarks, Baale Olayiwola called the project a welcome development, saying that due to economic challenges, most Nigerians are sick and are also afraid to go for checkups due to the unknown financial charges attached.

“Checking your vital signs is very important in the Nigeria of today, that’s why I must applaud the Rotary club of Ikorodu Metropolitan for picking my community to execute this project”.

“Due to our interest in this program, after they told us of their coming, we informed the CDA/CDC, Okada riders, market women and everyone who’ll be available to benefit from it”.

“We’ve also prayed for the club that God will continue to grow them as they continue to aid the community’s growth” Baale Olayiwola added.

In all, over 200 residents benefited from the program, with the Club receiving prayers and words of encouragement to continue their good works around the communities in the waterbed region.
