Region 26 headquarters of the Redeem Christian church of God, Ikorodu, received Ikorodu federal lawmaker, Rep. Babajimi Benson MHR on the 5th of March 2023.
Accompanied by delegates from the Lagos State Government and Lagos State Public Works Corporation, LSPWC, Engr. Ayotunde Shodeinde, Rep. Benson and his State entourage earned a cheerful welcome from the evangelical body at Pashoku, Ita-Elewa axis of Ikorodu local government.
With March 11th gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections around the corner, the National Lawgiver seized the medium to request prayers and support during the meeting to spawn success for the All Progressive Congress (APC) party.
In his speech, Rep. Benson enthralled the 10 parishes of the church (represented), yearning their backing and prayers for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the APC House of Assembly candidates in Ikorodu Constituency 1 & 2, Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye (OGA) and Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro Moshood (AMA).
Rep. Benson continued, “Ikorodu delivered the highest votes at the general elections on the 25th of February, which we know that a lot of members from religious bodies played a part in the outcome”.
“Due to the impressive outcome, the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, sent me and his delegates to appreciate the church for their assistance and also ask for your endorsement in the oncoming elections” He asserted.
The Regional Pastor, Clergy Dele Olowookere, thanked the lawmaker for his brief visit and also congratulated him on his re-election victory on February 25th.
Bestowing more light to the essence of the official visit, Clergy Dele explained that the Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has done extremely well in office and deserves to continue.
Clarifying that the church is in support of good governance, Pastor Dele said that his mindset is to see the desire of Gov. Sanwo-Olu, winning the March 11th election come to pass, so he could accomplish more for the centre of excellence state.
Pastor Dele proceeded “Some of our members here are part of your political party and groups, we know even though they’re quiet because we’re in church, they’ll come out en mass on Saturday to vote for Sanwo-Olu” Pastor Dele told Rep. Benson.
“What we shall do here is perform our spiritual duty by praying for you and using you as a point of contact to command success for Mr Governor at the gubernatorial elections”.
“It is indeed a good thing you’ve decided to meet with us for the support despite the numerous religious bodies we have around Ikorodu division” Pastor Dele asserted
The legislator was subsequently called out by the region 26 pastor, who requested all leaders and members stretch forth their hands and pray for him to be properly guided in his return to office as Ikorodu federal statesman.
