Olowoshoke Olaniyi, Chairman of, the Joint Erunwen community development forum, has debunked a news article about residents of Erunwen Community in Ikorodu raising concerns over poor drainage construction by the contractor handling its ongoing road configuration.
Mr Olaniyi, in a rebuttal statement to Ikorodu News Network (INN) on Sunday the 30th of April 2023, called the information fake, and an effort by certain people to degrade the progressive road construction.
According to him, residents did not complain about any poor quality of work, asserting that the contractor is utilising steel railings and hard concrete mix to assemble the drainage system.
Gazing at the project, Ikorodu News Network (INN) ascertained that (departing the Erunwen community) the right passage of the drainage has been completed, but the left passage was stopped close to the canal street before the main entry.
Labourers can also be seen fitting on the slab equipment at the canal street junction.
One of the workers on site explained that the left passage was halted, rightful to a slab being built to link the water passage to the canal.
“The cracked chunk of drainage block at the endpoint of the drainage where the work stopped before the rain fell was not back-filled, and that was it!”.
“It doesn’t affect the project in any way, because that is the point where the work will continue from immediately we’re done building the slab which will direct the water to the canal”.
“We only halted the work at that point to complete the slab, and if not for the consistent rain, we would have connected it by now, because we’re always on ground” the worker clarified.
Furthermore, Mr Olaniyi indicated that a project of such would always attract limitations to residents due to the various phases of the construction.
“It’s the sacrifice the community must make to achieve adequate and lasting thoroughfare” he explains.
“It was a thing of surprise glimpsing a report that residents decry the use of substandard materials in our ongoing construction”.
“A task and operation that is not hidden, with workers on standby every day to complete the project, if not for the heavy rain that fell on Wednesday, Thursday, and also on Saturday last week, am certain such an information wouldn’t be out there”.
“I consider the report as a conscious try to damage the credibility of this laudable project, which will draw development to Erunwen community, we will not condone it!” Mr Olaniyi said
The 3.3km Erunwen road construction project is facilitated by Ikorodu Federal Lawmaker, Hon. Babajimi Benson MHR.
