Commemorating the 2023 Tree Planting Day, Ikorodu Local Government has specified the need for all appropriate stakeholders in Ikorodu Central to embrace tree-planting undertakings.
Bidding to fulfil a purposeful greener community, the council expressed this on Friday the 14th of July 2023 during the annual tree planting commemorative.
The program took place at Aga Primary School in Sabo axis of Ikorodu Local Government, as council representatives, CDC leaders and officials of the health and environmental department in the council attended the occasion.
In a combined brief by Honourable Kazeem Ogidi and Comrade Babatunde Akadri Adeleke Sayleke, the council upheld that the success of an endurable habitat should not be seen as the sole responsibility of the government, but of every individual.
It continues, “We must motivate residents to become enthusiastic partakers in this environmental endeavour. Planting trees in our backyards, creating rooftop gardens, or even participating in community gardening projects can make a significant difference”.
“In addition to individual efforts, we must collaborate with local businesses, educational institutions and community organisations, by partnering with these stakeholders, we can develop creative solutions, share resources, and create a collective impact that will transform our city into an oasis of green”.
The council further promised that the government will continue to provide in exploration and development to identify the most effective and sustainable green initiatives, adding that efforts would be enhanced to secure a collaborative method to greening Ikorodu Local Government.
“We will engage and educate our residents, empowering them to take ownership of their environment and become active participants in the greening process. As we ensure a coordinated and collaborative approach to greening our State, we will leverage the parks and gardens under our purview amongst other spaces across Ikorodu LG”.
Mrs Sola Amokunmosa, Head Of the Environmental Department in Ikorodu Local Government, also called on residents to work hand in hand with the government to transform the waterbed region.
Commended residents of Ikorodu for demonstrating tremendous support, she said this year’s commemoration tagged, ‘Let’s Green Our City’ grants another chance to further sensitise pertinent stakeholders in environmental matters to know the significance of tree planting and the importance of removing trees without authorization.
The annual Tree Planting Day is usually observed on July 14 every year, set aside to draw civil awareness to tree planting and sensitise the public on the need to seed, nurture and preserve trees.
