Olalekan Onafeko, to write to the State police command for the arrest of Dr. Abayomi Baiyewu of Obitoks Hospital in the Alimosho area of Lagos. Adebola died on Tuesday shortly after the House called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to further assist him seek treatment abroad. While thanking Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his effort at the period the boy was being treated at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Speaker Obasa directed that a letter conveying the condolence message of the House be sent to the family. Dr. Obasa further asked the committee to look into other grey areas including inviting officials of the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) which has the law-backed responsibility to monitor private hospitals operating in the State. The Speaker further asked the committee to review the extant law so as to know if it should be amended just as he said private hospitals can be made to always report their activities to the government at all times. Formally announcing Adebola's death, Hon. Adams said the boy's case was disheartening. He said when the committee visited him on Tuesday, he still spoke with the lawmakers. He, however, said during investigation, the committee learnt from Dr. Baiyewu that he is not a surgeon but only relied on his experience as a medical doctor. He also said Baiyewu, whose testimonies were recorded, told the committee that he did not carry out any medical examination on the boy before the first surgery which he did himself adding that he only relied on the report from a hospital the patient was first taken to. Noheem said after Baiyewu did the first surgery, the boy continued to complain about stomach pain and was taken back to Obitoks Hospital where Baiyewu carried out another round of surgery by himself. Following more complications, Hon. Noheem said the boy was taken to LASUTH where it was confirmed that part of his intestine was missing. The lawmaker said as a doctor, Baiyewu should have taken the excised part of the boy's body to a pathological department for test, but that "Dr. Baiyewu told the committee that the body parts were mistakenly discarded," and that the doctor had planned to do a third surgery before the boy was taken to LASUTH. After Noheem's submission, the House commiserated with the bereaved family with Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda calling for the sealing of the hospital. Another member of the committee, Hon. Lawal Aina, told his colleagues it was a pitiable sight when the committee visited Adebola at the hospital. He added that upon interrogation, it was discovered that Dr. Baiyewu proved not to have been a certified surgeon. Some of the lawmakers who spoke on the issue, suggested that a formal complaint be made against Dr. Baiyewu to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for action while others urged stricter monitoring of medical doctors and hospitals.

LAWMAKERS CALL FOR IMMEDIATE ARREST OF DOCTOR WHO PERFORMED SURGERY, HOUSE COMMISERATES WITH MOHBAD’S FAMILY, FANS ®™√ INN Nigeria © mohbad 15 4 236945333476953100780 The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct the Ministry of Health to release funds for the overseas treatment of Adebola Akin-Bright, whose intestines got missing in the process of surgery. The House also commisserated with the family, friends and fans of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, a young Nigerian Aftobeat musician, whose mysterious death has caused reactions across Nigeria and other countries. Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, while presiding over the day's plenary, moved that Master Akin-Bright needed the urgent treatment abroad. Dr. Obasa and the House also called for the immediate arrest of the doctor of the private hospital, Obitoks Medical Centre in the Alimosho area of the state, who performed the initial surgery that led to the missing small intestine while investigations continue. The Speaker's position followed a preliminary report by the Majority Leader, Hon. Noheem Adams, who briefed the House on the findings of a five-man ad-hoc committee created to investigate the circumstances that led to the disappearance of the boy's intestine. Giving the preliminary report, Hon. Adams said members of the ad-hoc committee visited the boy at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on Tuesday. Adams, who chairs the committee, said that the full report would soon be presented, adding that some shocking discoveries were made in the course of its investigations. "We made some shocking discoveries in the course of our investigation. The incident is very unusual, but we want the boy to survive and we know Mr. Speaker is very interested in his survival too. "We went to LASUTH on the directives of the Speaker, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa, to find out the health status of Adebola Akin-Bright. "The hospital told us that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had taken care of the bill for his treatment at LASUTH. Adams, however, said they were told by the hospital that Akin-Bright needed to be transferred urgently to either the United States of America or United Kingdom for an intestine transplant and that communications were ongoing with hospitals in the two countries. In his contribution, Hon. Temitope Adewale, another member of the committee, said the patient's health was deteriorating and that urgent steps needed to be taken. "He is now given GMO nutrient and there is the urgent need to take him abroad. "Mr. Speaker, you have given this boy the opportunity to survive by setting up the committee," he said. Meanwhile, the House has thrown its weight behind the investigation by the police into Mohbad's death. The Speaker, while commending the Governor for also inviting the Department of State Services (DSS) into the issue, directed the Clerk of the House, Barrister Olalekan Onafeko, to write the Lagos Police Command and the DSS intimating them that the House supports the investigation and expect justice for the bereaved family. Obasa also urged fans of Mohbad to be patient and continue to act with decorum while the investigation continues.

The House noted the importance of Yoruba language for passing information to passengers on the trains since it would help some of them, especially new users, easily understand what to do. The House further noted that since 2017 when the bill on compulsory teaching of Yoruba Language in schools was passed, the State had made conscious efforts to encourage the use of the language in public places adding that this should be sustained. It, therefore, invited LAMATA to appear and explain the reasons behind its refusal to adopt the use of the language. The lawmakers also called on the Ministry of Environment to commence immediate clearing of drainage channels and canals across the State. Hon. Kehinde Joseph representing Alimosho Constituency 2 raised the issue under 'Matter of Urgent Public Importance' at plenary. According to him, heavy rains in the State as predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, (NIMET) have damaged some houses in his constituency while some buildings have been submerged by flood with properties destroyed. The lawmaker complained of blocked drainage channels and canals, saying there was need for the Ministry of Environment to act urgently while the Ministry of Information should carry out sensitisation of Lagosians to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse. In his contribution, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu representing Eti-Osa Constituency 2 said flooding in the State was as a result of climate change and rise in the sea level. Hon. Temitope Adewale representing one of the constituencies of Ifako Ijaiye suggested the reintroduction of environmental sanitation to make residents clear their gutters. Hon. Ladi Ajomale said flooding in his constituency was disheartening, while Hon. Rasheed Shabi said there was need for a stringent policy to be put in place. He tasked Local Government chairman to take the responsibility of clearing and fumigating the drainages in their areas. Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda, who presided over the plenary, urged the relevant agencies to expedite action. She also called on each of the Local Governments to do the needful while LAWMA should be ready to play its role. Meanwhile, the House confirmed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's nominee, Tolani Akibu, whose name was initially stepped down by the lawmakers.

According to Princess Basirat, the sole aim of the project is to help students by providing them with a better learning environment. The program, themed; 'Maintaining A Clean Environment', she explained that the school is observing overpopulation, which causes inconveniences for pupils. "It was due to those inconveniences that spurred me to get to work on facilitating the extra classrooms as a form of service to humanity," she said. Urging the school administration to apply maintenance culture in preserving the resources, Princess pleads with everyone to imbibe the heart of giving. The visit comes as the CP activates plans to acquaint himself with the safety approach of the region, using the same medium to pursue counsel and prayers from the paramount ruler. Hosted at the palace of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu Kingdom, other kings present were; HRM, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, HRM, Oba Aremu Shotonwa, Sekumade Of Ipakodo, HRM, Oba Ajibade Mudashiru Agoro, Ranodu Of Imota, HRM, Oba Adeoriyomi Oyebo, Obateru Of Egbin, HRM, Oba Richard Olukayode, Eweye of Isiu, and HRM, Oba Moruf Ahmed Olalekan, Alagura of Agura. Welcoming the Commissioner of Police, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, in his brief speech thanked CP Idowu Owohunwa for taking out time to visit the palace. He explained that Ikorodu, which is the 3rd largest city in southwest Nigeria should always be prioritised in the area of security, encouraging the CP to discern in asking for assistance in ensuring its numerous command posts in Ikorodu work effectively. Benjamin Hundeyin, Public Relations officer to the Lagos State police force introduced the ranking officers that accompanied the CP, before giving the floor to the commissioner of police. "When I learned about the IDPIL, I was so delighted about the step put in place by the community to combat crimes, because the truth is, government alone cannot do it all". "The best way to operate is for our officers to integrate these trained security operatives in their actions to fight crimes around the community". "I don't know how far our command posts in this division have been able to work together with IDPIL, but I'll ensure to put it in full motion that they work together with this local security team" CP Idowu added Filled with satisfaction, HRM, Oba Kabiru Adewale, in his follow-up remark, thanked the CP for his visit, stating that he was very pleased the CP had it in mind to see him.
