Igbogbo Baiyeku Local Council Development Area in Lagos State, Nigeria has launched a food bank initiative that instantly benefited over 3,000 residents in the region.
Launched on the 3rd of August 2023, the welfare program received commendations from residents and stakeholders alike.
Undertaken by the council chairman, Bldr Sesan Daini, the agenda positions itself as a lifeline for many families in the area, who have been struggling to make ends meet due to rising food prices as a result of the fuel subsidy removal.
According to the chairman, the food bank initiative, which provides essential supplies to residents in need, is set to continue for another six months.
The extension of the procedure has been cheered by residents and stakeholders, who have praised the council chairman for his leadership and commitment to the welfare of the community.
Bldr Daini, in his speech, stated that the initiative is expected to proceed with procuring much-needed support to families in Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA for the foreseeable future.
He continued, “Food is one major area where families are feeling the pain currently, and the council will try as much as possible in our capacity to help residents”.
“From our traditional institutions, religious bodies, CDA’s, Market men and women, transport workers and youths wing members, we’re taking off to stretch our hands to aid every dweller in this area”.
“Particularly the low-income families, the less privilege persons, widows and widowers, the ones in the nooks and crannies of the LCDA who can not make it to this program, we shall reach out to them” Bldr Daini asserted.
Mrs Adenaike Toyin, planning committee chairman (IBLCDA food bank initiative) explained her involvement in the program as a call to serve humanity, expressing her zeal to participate in the course due to the present state of the economy.
Conveying her enthusiasm to be called upon by the executive chairman to spearhead the committee, she asserted that the six months program is a responsibility she doesn’t take with levity in the interest of the good people of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA.
She further honoured Bldr Sesan Daini for his oversight and loyalty to the interest of the community.
Ikorodu Division Apex Leader, Chief Asipa Kaoli, in his remarks, lauded the council chairman, Bldr Sesan Daini, for his food bank agenda.
In his message, Chief Kaoli complimented the council chairman for his dedication to the welfare of the LCDA, urging residents to be patient with the government as it works to address the challenges facing the region, state and nation.
He also called on residents to support one another during these difficult times and to take advantage of the food bank initiative to ensure that everyone in the community has access to essential supplies.
Yeye Basorun, wife of Lagos GAC member, Funmi Basorun, in her short speech, thanked the council for trying to meet the need of residents, urging them to ensure that the process is thoroughly monitored for the items to get to those who are really in need of it.
Representatives of Ndigbo and Arewa communities in Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA also applauded the council for the food bank initiative.
In their respective appreciation speeches, they cheered the council chairman for his supervision and allegiance to ameliorate the community and thanked him for his efforts to assist residents who have been affected by the economic downturn and other challenges.
The Ndigbo and Arewa communities (both from the eastern and northern parts of Nigeria) are two of the largest ethnic groups in Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, and their support for the council chairman’s food bank initiative is seen as a sign of the program’s success.
In all, the initiative has been acclaimed for its impact on the community, providing much-needed assistance to households who have been striving to make ends meet.
The council chairman, Bldr Sesan Daini, has been widely praised for his administration and devotion to the good of the town, and he has pledged to continue working to relieve residents during these difficult times.
