The Executive Chairman Of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina has disclosed that the historical Agura Primary Health Centre will be refurbished in 30 days.
With plans to provide comprehensive health care to residents in the area, Adesina made the statement on the 8th of August 2023 during his inspection visit to the dilapidated health centre, creasing the assessment as also a stakeholders’ engagement, ahead of the project’s completion.
According to the council boss, the primary health centre, which is over 30 years old is much due for an extensive upgrade to cater for the well-being of dwellers in the neighborhood.
He elucidated, “When we’re done with this rehabilitation, the council will hand over the PHC to the Ward Health Committee (WHC) because they are responsible for managing the facilities”.
“Coming here today can be heeded as the official flag-off of the restoration of this health centre. Not only we’re taking off to renovate it, but we’re also procuring water and enhancing their soakaway system”
“It should also be noted that we’re going to build a laboratory centre in Agura, to ensure that lives are boosted within this axis on a medical level” He asserted
The chairman also seized the medium to appreciate the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for maintaining his word in the ongoing construction of roads leading toward the Gberigbe-Agura axis.
Also present at the engagement is the newly appointed Lagos State permanent secretary for primary health District 2, Dr Dayo Olajide, who applauded the Executive Chairman for ensuring the PHC is brought up to standard.
Dr Dayo, in her brief remark, explained that once the health centre is up and running, it will recoup dwellers from the pressure of moving out of their vicinity to seek health support.
She also urged residents, especially expectant and nursing mothers to get registered with the centre to exempt them from not receiving aid during cases of emergency.
Speaking before the end of the program, the Alagura of Agura, HRM, Oba Morouf Olalekan communicated his happiness towards the rehabilitation of the PHC, hailing the council chairman for extending the dividend of democracy to his region.
He said that though the Agura community has a long way to go in terms of advancement, he trusts the PHC upgrade to stimulate and attract growth to the area.
Mr Suliu Kazeem, the Local Government Health Authority chairman, advised the Ward Health Committee to start sensitising the community on how to fully take advantage of the primary health centre, asserting that it will be a thing of benefit for residents to comprehend the essence of the centre.
Conveying her appreciation, the Head Of PHC, Dr Ramat Odesesan cheered Hon. Wasiu Adesina for his decision to rehabilitate the primary health centre, deeming the undertaking long overdue.
