On Monday, August 28th, 2023, Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club took a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability by spearheading its already established recycling project in the community.
The project, initiated by PDG Ano Anyanwu during his tenure, was steered by Lion Aluko Kayode (Project/Service Chairperson), and aimed to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and encourage responsible waste management practices.
As part of the project, three transparent recycling bins were distributed to key locations in the community in 2022.
The recent recycling was carried out by the club to continue their bid to maintain a healthy environment as promised during the launch of the initiative.
The NIPCO petrol station at Sabo axis, Jendol Supermarket after low-cost housing estate, and Oshodi Arts Gallery (opposite NASFAT) were chosen as strategic points to maximize accessibility and participation.
Lion Aluko Kayode, in his talk, emphasized the significance of recycling in preserving the environment and reducing waste.
He highlighted the club’s commitment to making a positive impact in the community and encouraged residents to actively participate in the recycling initiative.
The transparent recycling bins serve as a visual reminder for individuals to separate recyclable materials from general waste.
By placing these bins in easily accessible areas, Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club aims to make recycling a convenient and habitual practice for residents.
Aged individuals who were stationed by the club to ensure the bins were emptied when filled were also empowered to be on standby to keep the project operational.
The project received positive feedback from the community, with beneficiaries expressing enthusiasm and pledging their support.
The management of NIPCO petrol station, Jendol Supermarket, and Oshodi Arts Gallery eagerly embraced the initiative, recognizing the importance of their role in promoting sustainable practices.
Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club’s recycling project is a testament to their dedication to community service and environmental stewardship.
By encouraging recycling and responsible waste management, they are making a lasting impact on the community’s sustainability efforts.
The club used the medium to urge residents of Ikorodu to actively participate in the recycling initiative by utilizing transparent bins and spreading awareness about the importance of recycling.
They asserted that collectively, everyone can create a cleaner and greener environment for future generations.
