Playing a vital role in fostering progress and harmony within a community, recently elected Community Development Committees (CDCs) in Ijede LCDA was inaugurated on thursday, 7th of September 2023 at the council secretariat.
The committees, comprised of dedicated individuals, performs as a bridge between the local government and the residents they represent across the LCDA.
According to the LCDA, the committee had an arrangement to ratify the new executives before effecting the inauguration process.
The Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, who in her speech congratulated the newly elected leaders, requesting their hundred percent cooperation and support.
Asserting that her administration is open for positive synergy, Hon Motunrayo said the new executives should provide a platform for community members to voice their concerns, needs, and aspirations.
“Through regular meetings and open communication, CDCs are meant to ensure that every resident has a say in the development of their community”.
“They actively collaborate with local government officials, forging a strong partnership to address community issues”.
“So, by working together with my administration, they can identify and implement projects that enhance infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other essential services” Hon Motunrayo expressed.
The council boss further noted that the CDCs empower residents to take ownership of their community’s development, instructing new executives to constantly encourage grassroots initiatives and volunteerism, which will promote a sense of unity and collective responsibility among community members.
Before the inauguration, Mrs Morayo Olubunmi, a director with the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, and the zonal head of Ikorodu division, told the new executives that it is the duty of the CDC to identify the integral needs of the community.
She asserted that it is when the CDC recognizes the various necessities that they can thoroughly carry out developmental projects.
“The interest of the community should come first to the CDC, and that can only be made possible with active collaboration with the government at the Local and State level”.
“When the government sees that their agenda are meant to develop their towns, they will easily secure support from this administration”.
“For instance, some communities needs water, others are seeking good roads and more, but it is only when the CDC put their ears to the ground that top projects would be prioritised” Mrs Morayo said
She also exhorted the new executives to work together, and identify means to raise funds from private institutions.
On his path, the Vice-Chairman of Ijede LCDA, and Super for Agriculture, Hon. Femi Kareem advised the new executives to serve as problem solvers, by tackling issues that affect the community’s well-being.
According to him, Whether it’s addressing environmental concerns, promoting safety measures, or advocating for social programs, CDCs work diligently to find solutions that benefit everyone.
“CDCs focus on long-term sustainable development”.
“By considering the economic, social, and environmental aspects of their community, they strive to create a balanced and thriving environment for future generations” Hon Kareem added.
Briefly speaking to Ikorodu News Network (INN) after the inauguration, the new CDC chairman, Hon. Kehinde Fesomu said that the CDCs are the backbone of community development.
Putting her leadership in perspective, she explained that her commitment, collaboration tendencies, and dedication to better her community will be a driving force for positive change in Ijede LCDA.
Encouraging the Council Chairman to constantly support her leadership, she asserted that together, CDCs and residents will create a brighter and more prosperous future for Ijede LCDA.
