The leadership of Ikorodu Metro Lions Club held a childhood cancer awareness program on the 19th of September 2023 at Oke-Eletu Primary Health Center in memorial of World Cancer Day.
The undertaking is to engage parents and teach them how to take note of their children’s cancer disease symptoms by enlightening them about signs, prevention, and causes.
President of the club, Lion Shakirat Adefijabi NLCF, extolled the Doctors, Nurses, and Parents for their health cautious efforts.
She welcomed them by wasting less time to brief guests on the essence of the program.
Emphasizing mothers’ readiness to seek doctor’s advice on symptoms, Prevention, and causes of cancer.
Furthermore, she explained that mothers should always take note of every single change in their child’s body, urging them not to take self-medication or go to the chemists for inaccurate prescribed drugs.
Lion Shakirat, appealed to all mothers to make use of the health center or any approved hospital around for better treatment, using the medium to pray for them not to encounter any health issues in their families.
The guest speaker, Dr. Adedayo Lydia, praised Ikorodu Metro Lions Club for picking Oke-Eletu Primary Health Center for childhood cancer awareness.
She explained that most people in the country believe cancer is meant for only adults which is wrong, recollecting that every year, over 400 children died of cancer which she thinks is more.
Interviewing with Ikorodu News Network (INN), she later said that the rate of cancer in the community is due to a lack of awareness.
She subsequently advised mothers to take note of any changes in the body of their children and refer them to the appropriate hospital in due time.
“A day-old baby can be diagnosed with cancer and early detection is better than late detection,” Nurse Hassan Adekemi Adenike OIC of Oke-Eletu Primary Health Center said.
Also, Lion Ahmed Ajayi from Ikorodu Metropolitan Lions Club appealed to the mothers to share whatever they’ve learned in the program with their family, friends, neighbors, and loved ones in other to help the community from any form of cancerous disease.
Before the close of the program, Mrs. Abdurasaq Nofisat appreciated Ikorodu Metro Lions Club, shedding light on what she learned from the childhood cancer awareness program.
She also encouraged other mothers at the program to stay tuned to all the lectures the doctor delivered in other to prevent their child from any form of cancer disease.
