The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Wasiu Adesina, marked a significant milestone in the region’s education sector as he commissioned five blocks of classrooms at Salvation Army Primary School in Ikorodu on Tuesday the 10th of October 2023.
The project, aimed at creating a more conducive learning environment for students, has reflected the council chairman’s dedication to the betterment of education for the youth, fostering a brighter future for the pupils, and promoting a culture of knowledge.
The ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former Lagos Commissioner for Agriculture Chief Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, APC Party Leader Ikorodu LGA, Alhaji Waheed Animasahun, Oba Moruf Lekan Hameed, the Alagura of Agura, and His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, Ayangbure of Ikorodu kingdom.
Councillors from the council, stakeholders, and other eminent personalities who went through the school during the early day also attended the groundbreaking occasion.
In his address, Adesina highlighted the importance of the newly commissioned classrooms, emphasizing their pivotal role in enhancing knowledge acquisition for students and aiding teachers in elevating the quality of education.
He also showcased his administration’s commitment to education at the grassroots level, which included providing new desks and chairs, building toilet units, reconstructing fences, disbursing GCE forms, offering bursary allowances to indigent students, donating notebooks and school bags, renovating the Agura PHC, and establishing ten Adult Education Centers in the region.
Adesina further praised the construction company responsible for the project, citing their commendable work.
Subsequently, the Kokoro Abu Base presented academic gift items to support the chairman in his educational endeavors.
David Sumoni, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Lagos State University (LASU), also an alumnus of Salvation Army Primary School, expressed his gratitude and explained how the project had been a personal challenge for him.
He pledged his continued support to the school and encouraged teachers and students to maintain the facilities provided.
Dr. Saheed Ibikunle, the representative of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), commended Hon. Wasiu Adesina for his unwavering support for the education sector and encouraged students to focus on their studies.
The paramount ruler of Ikorodu division, HRM, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, Ayangbure of Ikorodu also congratulated the Executive Chairman for his efforts towards education in the local government.
He challenged all leaders who have benefited from the school to give back to the community.
In a fitting conclusion to the ceremony, Oba Shotobi commissioned the five blocks of classrooms and the accompanying furniture.
Students at Salvation Army Primary School expressed their appreciation to the council chairman by presenting a special award to Adesina, celebrating the progressive and conducive learning environment that has been provided for them.
Hon. Wasiu Adesina concluded the event by promising to enhance security in the school’s vicinity.
He also promised to rehabilitate the Kokoro Abu road extension, urging the students to focus, learn, re-learn, and concentrate on their studies for a brighter future.
